5 domestic players India should try before the 2016 World T20

Kuldeep Yadav can be the X factor in the Indian T20 side

The Indian team have a lot of issues to sort out before the 2016 World T20With less than six months to go for the 2016 T20 World Cup, all the teams are fine-tuning their teams to get the right combination. India, who will be hosting the tournament, are also set to play a number of matches in the format before the World Cup than they usually play which is a great thing in order to prepare a well-settled side before the tournament begins.Though India has suffered a setback of sorts with the series loss against South Africa, they would like to see this series as a learning curve – Virat Kohli said the same following the series defeat. But there’s no denying that India still has a lot of problems to solve before the World Cup – the openers are not blazing off like the ones in other teams, there is no assigned finisher at number seven and the bowling still looks undercooked. So let’s have a look at the 5 players in domestic cricket India should try before the T20 World Cup as maybe, some of these players could solve India’s problems.

#5 Kuldeep Yadav

Kuldeep Yadav can be the X factor in the Indian T20 side

Kuldeep Yadav plays for Uttar Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy and bowls chinaman which is an art rarely practised in cricket. A chinaman bowler conventionally turns the ball into the right-hander, but he can bowl the wrong one which can go away from the right hander.

Kuldeep, with his chinaman, can provide an element of mystery to the Indian T20 team, which can be pretty useful on the Indian tracks, especially considering the success the Australian Brad Hogg enjoyed in IPL 8.

In the tour match against South Africa, his performance was excellent. The South Africans managed 189 runs batting first, but Kuldeep only conceded 26 runs in his four overs. Furthermore, he got the crucial wicket of AB de Villiers.

India can try him before the World Cup and see if the opposition is able to read him well or whether he is able to bamboozle them with his art.

#4 Mayank Agarwal

Mayank Agarwal can the blistering starts that India so desperately lack

Mayank Agarwal is a right handed opening batsman who plays his domestic cricket for Karnataka. Someone who likes to play his shots, Mayank can be an option for the opener’s slot in the team.

With Indian team having Rohit Sharma as an opener who likes to take his time at the start of the innings, there is the need of an opener who can play his shots right from the start. Neither of Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane look the part as far as that criteria is concerned, leaving the door open for Agarwal to be given a chance.

Agarwal could well be the player to solve this quandary. Playing for India A in the match against South Africa, where the latter had almost the same bowling attack as the one that played against India in the recently concluded T20 series, he scored a brilliant innings of 87 from 49 balls which helped his victory script a famous victyory.

India can try him in the matches before the World Cup to see whether he can make a successful transition to international cricket.

#3 Robin Uthappa

Robin Uthappa deserves another chance in the Indian national team

Robin Uthappa had a decent T-20 series against Zimbabwe and would have hoped to be in contention for the team against South Africa but unfortunately, he wasn’t selected to play against the Proteas.

A naturally aggressive batsman, Uthappa had an amazing IPL with Kolkata Knight Riders in 2014 and has also scored lots of first-class runs for Karnataka in the last two seasons. His batting capabilities can make him a contender for a spot in the T20 side.

Uthappa can play as an opener as well as a finisher in the Indian team. India can try Uthappa in the few matches left before the World Cup and see whether he can be a part of their plans.

#2 Gurkeerat Singh Mann

Gurkeerat Singh Mann
Gurkeerat has impressed the selectors with his impressive run of form for India A

Gurkeerat Singh Mann was selected for the Indian squad for the first three ODI matches against South Africa after an impressive run of recent form for the India A side. Included in the team for his all-round capabilities, Gurkeerat can also be a welcome addition in the Indian T-20 team. He can be a good finisher lower down the order and can also bowl some handy off-spin.

Along with Rishi Dhawan, Gurkeerat is another option for the number seven spot. He can also play at the number six spot as he has shown himself to be a decent batsman in the recent outings for India A and Punjab.

With India looking for options at both number six and number seven spot, Gurkeerat can be one option they can try. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him in the next T20 series India plays if he gets the chance to make his ODI debut against the Proteas and manages to capitalize on that.

#1 Rishi Dhawan

Rishi Dhawan could well be the all-rounder India is desperately looking for

India have been for long looking for a genuine fast bowling all-rounder. Playing Stuart Binny in the various formats was a step to solve this problem but the 31-year-old still looks a more bits and pieces player than an all-rounder.

With number seven being a critical spot in the T20 setup, India needs a genuine allrounder at that spot. Rishi Dhawan’s first-class career record so far has proven that he can be the allrounder India is looking for. He has picked up heaps of wickets in domestic cricket and has also managed to score some handy runs.

If India play him at the number seven spot, then India can play three spinners at eight, nine and ten in the spin-friendly conditions that are likely to be encountered during the T20 World Cup. A fast bowling all-rounder will provide the ideal balance to the team and India should consider trying him out before the World Cup.

A good performance in the few games before the Worrld Cup can give him the boost to perform in the coveted tournament.
