5 instances when MS Dhoni got angry

MS Dhoni is popularly known in cricketing circles as ‘Captain Cool’ for his nonplussed demeanour in tense situations. It is in fact his customary ice-cool attitude that has helped him to stay composed and carry India over the line on numerous occasions. But there has been the odd occasion when MS Dhoni lost his cool.Let us look at the five instances when MS Dhoni got angry.

#5 When he was denied home-cooked biriyani

It turns out that Dhoni is as passionate about his food as he is about cricket. During the 2014 Champions League T20, Dhoni reportedly got furious when Hotel Grand Kakatiya in Hyderabad refused to let the CSK squad have the home-cooked biriyani sent by Ambati Rayudu.

The decision had reportedly made Dhoni so incensed that he moved the entire CSK team out of the hotel and moved to its rival, Hotel Taj Krishna. He made the team management cancel their booking and the BCCi officials also moved to Taj Krishna along with the team. Not a small price to pay for refusing Dhoni home-cooked biriyani!

#4 When Yuvraj refused to take the second run

India seemed to be coasting to victory in the 2011 world cup final when MS Dhoni all of a sudden lost his cool rather uncharacteristically. Nuwan Kulasekara was bowling with India needing a run-a-ball 22 runs for victory when Dhoni hit a ball hard to long on.

Dhoni seemed to be enjoying milking Kulasekara and he was clearly not amused when Yuvraj Singh turned down the second run. Even though the second run was clearly not on, Dhoni quite angrily made his point to Yuvraj as he was clearly unhappy being stuck at the non-striker’s end.

#3 When he couldn\'t catch the attention of a CSK fielder in the deep

In the CSK vs DD qualifying match in the 2012 IPL, the Chennai Super Kings had posted a mammoth 222 thanks to a brilliant century by Murali Vijay. Even though they had runs on the board to play with, MS Dhoni wanted to make sure that this team did not get complacent and stayed focus on the game.

Perhaps irritated with his own mistake when he failed to grasp on to a wide slow delivery down the leg-side bowled by Dwayne Bravo, Dhoni got extremely angry when he failed to grasp the attention of a fielder in the deep while he was moving his fielders.

It was not clear who the unlucky fielder was but Sanjay Manjrekar was commentating also said in surprise, “ We’ve just captured the rare footage of Mahendra Singh Dhoni glaring at one of his fielders.”

#2 When Jadeja conceded a second run

The CSK vs RR match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai during the last IPL was poised for a tense finish with 27 runs needed off the last over of Dwayne Bravo. Chris Morris smashed the first ball of the over, which was also a no-ball for being a waist-high full toss, for a six.

Morris hit the next ball to deep mid-wicket and Ravindra Jadeja was rather slow off the blocks as he allowed Morris to come back for a second. It was rare occasion when Dhoni got extremely enraged and gave Jadeja a deathly stare. Arun Lal said on air, "If looks could kill, Jadeja was buried."

#1 When Mike Hussey was called back after being given out

In the 29th over of the India-Australia ODI at Brisbane during the 2011-12 tri-series, when Suresh Raina was bowling, a close call for stumping against Mike Hussey was referred to the third umpire. The third umpire adjudged the batsman out and Hussey had started walking only for him to be called back by the on-field umpires moments later.

MS Dhoni was furious with the way things turned out as remonstrated instantly. He had a long and heated discussion with the on-field umpires who explained to him that the word ‘Out’ had been flashed on the big screen because of a possible technical malfunction. But it did leave MS Dhoni fuming for some time.
