5 teams having a completely different look compared to the previous World T20

Sri Lanka have made five changes to the side that won the ICC T20 World Cup 2014

The ICC World T20 2016 has gotten underway. The last edition of the T20 World Cup happened in 2014 and in these two years, some sides have almost changed their entire T20I lineups. Some legends have retired, some players have lost their place in the squad and some were not picked due to their dismal T20I record. Sri Lanka the defending champions have seen legends like Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara fading away as they called it a day on their illustrious careers. Let us have a look at the five teams who have a completely different look compared to the previous World T20:

#5 Sri Lanka - 5 changes

Sri Lanka have made five changes to the side that won the ICC T20 World Cup 2014

The defending champions Sri Lanka are going through a transition phase as some of their key players have retired and some of the members went out of contention. So they have a new look to their side this time around in the ICC T20 World Cup 2016.

Barring a few, most of the players have just burst onto the international scene and are relatively inexperienced in the international arena. Sri Lanka have problems aplenty in terms of their team’s recent form. They have struggled to get their team composition right and it’s going to hurt them in the World Cup too.

If we compare their side to that the one that won the last edition of the T20 World Cup, we can see that the side has gone through a lot of transformation

Out: Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara, Kusal Perera, Seekkuge Prasanna, Ajantha Mendis

In: Shehan Jayasuriya, Chamara Kapugedera, Milinda Siriwardana, Dushmantha Chameera, Dasun Shanaka

#4 Bangladesh - 7 changes

Bangladesh have seven new faces in their squad

The resurgent Bangladesh team have played exceptionally well in the last one year or so. Their ODI success seems to have rubbed off on their T20I success too, as they recently defeated Pakistan and Sri Lanka to qualify for the Asia Cup Final which they lost to India.

The Bangladesh side have grown well under the leadership of Mashrafe Mortaza and they will look to continue their rich vein of form in the ICC T20 World Cup 2016 too. The squad that is selected to play T20 world cup this time, has a new look to it if someone compares it to the one that played in the 2014 edition of the T20 World Cup.

They have nurtured quality fast bowlers and they have some big-hitters in their line-up too. Their perennial reliance on left-arm spinners seems to have decreased and it is now the fast bowlers upon whom they heavily rely.

Let’s have a look at some of the changes they have made

The 2010 champions, England have changed their squad a lot over the past few years by putting a greater emphasis on a brand of aggressive cricket. They follow a horses-for-courses strategy and roped in T20 specialists in the squad.

England in the last few years under Coach Travis Bailey have tried to redefine their limited-over strategy and have reaped benefits as well. This time, they have a different captain too as under T20 specialist, Eoin Morgan, England will try to repeat their 2010 feat.

#1 Pakistan - 9 changes

Pakistan have made nine changes to the squad that played in the previous edition

The 2009 champions Pakistan are looking to revive their fortunes in this edition of the World Cup. They have a history of changing their squad time and time again. This time too, the story remains the same.

Barring a few players, they have almost changed the players that took part in the ICC T20 World Cup 2014. But as always, they have a good bowling line-up at their disposal in this tournament too.

The return of their tainted pacer Mohammad Amir will surely boost their bowling department as the left-arm seamer is in red-hot form. Their batting is their weak link and they have made some changes there to strengthen their batting. The side that played in the 2014 edition has undergone plenty of changes and here they are
