Best Images from India South Africa 5th ODI: Shock on Indian faces, Rahane's muddied jersey, flood of legends

South Africa won the final match and the one-day international series by 214 runs against India at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. This is India’s first series loss at home since 2012.With the series locked at 2-2, the two teams played with everything on the line in the 5th ODI, but one team turned out to be the better on the day – by quite a big margin. Here are the best frames captured in the course of the match, and the glittering post-match ceremony that followed:

#1 India get Amla early

India started off the deciding ODI on the right note, dismissing opener Hashim Amla cheaply as early as in the 4th over. They were hardly prepared for the carnage that would follow.

#2 De Kock comes up with Kohli-esque celebration

Quinton de Kock gave the South African middle order an ideal launchpad with his 2nd century of the series, marking the milestone with a celebration very much like the one Virat Kohli had come up with in the 4th ODI – a fist pump and a lot of aggressive attitude.

#3 India\'s best bowler on the day

Rarely has Harbhajan been India’s best bowler on the day with match figures of 1/70, but such was the scale of the carnage unleashed by the South African batsmen.

#4 Faf brings up his century

Faf du Plessis joined De Kock with the score at a delicate stage, took his time to settle in, and then went for his shots with abandon – clearing the ropes more often than not.

He smashed nine fours and six sixes in his 115-ball 133, retiring hurt after the marathon innings.

#5 Job well done for De Kock

AB de Villiers gives De Kock a warm hug after his dismissal, congratulating him on a job well done. It was the opener’s knock which gave ABD and those to follow him the freedom to launch into their shots from the very first ball.

#6 Dhoni turns physio

A peculiar sight was being played out on the field around the 40-over mark – Faf du Plessis was hitting huge shots out of the park, but collapsing on the ground immediately afterwards with cramps.

After a particularly bad bout of cramps, he needed CSK teammate MS Dhoni to lend a hand with stretching exercises. He could not recover enough to carry on for long though, retiring hurt on 133.

#7 De Kock strikes gold, again

Virat Kohli was the man India were looking towards to provide the inspiration in the monumental chase in the second innings. He, however, had to depart, after his bat got an edge off a very wide ball, and De Kock flew to his right and clutched onto the ball with one hand – sending the visitors into raptures and the hosts into despair.

#8 Rahane\'s muddied jersey

Leaping in to complete singles, hitting three sixes out of the park – Ajinkya Rahane was the lone warrior in the crumbling Indian batting order. With his muddied jersey, he reminded Indian fans of Gautam Gambhir in the 2011 World Cup final at the same venue. Sadly, another famous win was not to be.

#9 Two Indian legends

#10 Felicitation of a legend

Sachin Tendulkar felicitates Zaheer Khan for his years of service to Mumbai and Indian cricket. The India legend, whose services might have come in handy in the match, announced his retirement from the game recently, and was a guest of honour for the match.

#11 The star of the series

Kagiso Rabada, South Africa’s breakaway star of the series, pictured in the middle as the team celebrate their series win. Rabada took 10 wickets in the series, the most for a fast bowler.

#12 Victory spoils

The South African team celebrate the ODI series win, their first in India.

#13 Anushka Sharma reacts to Kohli\'s wicket

Anushka Sharma was shown on the big screens when Virat Kohli hit a six, but the moment that followed reminded of the World Cup semi final – Virat went out to a nothing-shot, the big screen went back into the stands to register the shock and disappointment on the face of Kohli’s beau.

#14 Two legends of the game

Sachin Tendulkar and AB de Villiers exchange notes after the match – two of the greatest cricketers ever to have played the sport.

#15 Ravi Shastri\'s expressions

As South Africa raced towards the 4th highest ODI total ever, Team Director Ravi Shastri made no attempt to hide his concern in the dressing room.
