IPL Team of the Week 1

The 7th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has gotten underway and with all the teams having played a couple of matches, we take a look at the team of the week so far. There have been some great performances over the past few days and they all find a place on this team.

#1 Parthiv Patel

Despite the squad boasting of many big-hitting superstars, it's the wicket-keeper from Gujarat who has come to the party first for the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Parthiv made a quick 37 in the chase against the Delhi Daredevils and then followed it up with a Man Of The Match performance against Mumbai Indians.

The way Parthiv took the attack to Lasith Malinga was particularly impressive as the 29-year old made an unbeaten 57 in a tricky run chase.

#2 Manish Pandey

Manish Pandey was the first player to register a half-century in IPL 7 when he got there during his knock of 64 against the Mumbai Indians in the tournament opener.

Pandey played another good knock of 48 against Delhi Daredevils and has been a rock solid No.3 batsman so far for his new franchise, the Kolkata Knight Riders.

#3 Sanju Samson

Samson did not find his groove in the Rajasthan Royals' first game against Sunrisers Hyderabad but played a blitzkreig knock against Kings XI Punjab in their second game.

Samson scored 52 off 34 balls in a knock that included 3 boundaries and 4 hits over the ropes as he took the Punjab attack to the cleaners.

#4 Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell has undoubtedly been the player of the tournament so far.

The Australian scored a whirlwind 93 which allowed the Kings XI Punjab to chase down a score of 205 against the Chennai Super Kings and then went on to do almost exactly the same against the Rajasthan Royals by scoring 89 off 45 balls.

The way Maxwell has batted, with utmost confidence and utter disdain for the bowling, has been the story of IPL 7 so far.

#5 JP Duminy

Duminy has had a great start to his IPL campaign as well with the South African scoring two half centuries in as many games.

Duminy made an unbeaten 67 in the first game against Royal Challengers Bangalore and then scored a match winning 52* against Kolkata Knight Riders to lead his side to victory.

#6 David Miller

Miller has continued from where he left off last season and has been a crucial factor in the Kings XI Punjab chasing down two huge scores to register two wins in IPL 7.

Miller is yet to be dismissed in this season's tournament and has scored 54* and 51* in two games.

His assault on Dhawal Kulkarni of the Rajasthan Royals is right up there as one of the moments of the tournament so far.

#7 Yuzvendra Chahal

23-year old Yuzvendra Chahal has been the find of the season with the young leg-spinner impressing everyone.

Chahal has finished with figures of 1/18 and 2/17 in the two games for Royal challengers Bangalore.

Perhaps, the most impressive part of Chahal's story is that he is yet to concede a boundary despite having bowled 8 overs in IPL 7.

#8 Kane Richardson

Little was known of 23-year old Kane Richardson before he appeared for the Rajasthan Royals in the first game of IPL 7.

The Australian though has been quite impressive with his right-arm fast bowling which has saw him pick up figures of 2/25 and 1/25 in his two games in the tournament so far.

#9 Zaheer Khan

It is always dangerous to write off Zaheer Khan and the Indian speedster has proved just why in the opening two games of IPL 7 playing for the Mumbai Indians.

Zaheer appears to have found his rythm at the start of the tournament and has bowled two miserly spells of 1/23 and 2/21 in his two games.

#10 Varun Aaron

Varun Aaron's first two games for his new franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore have been quite good.

The 24-year old has bowled quick and picked up a few wickets to go with it. Aaron has match figures of 1/9 and 2/30 in his two games for the franchise in this season's tournament.

#11 Sunil Narine

Sunil Narine's mystery remains unsolved in the IPL even now.

The West Indian was just unplayable in Kolkata Knight Riders' first game against Mumbai indians and picked up 4/20 in his 4 overs.

Narine was also very economical in the second game and returned with figures of 1/18 against the Delhi Daredevils.
