Sri Lanka vs India, 3rd Test Day 3 Stats - Pujara carries his bat through and India's Deja vu

Ishant Sharma picked up five wickets for IndiaIndia ended day three of the third Test against Sri Lanka with a lead of 132. With two days remaining in the Test, they would love to capitalise on the situation and give the hosts a stiff target to chase. However, they need their skipper Kohli and Rohit Sharma to do the bulk of the scoring as the top order has already been dismissed. Earlier, Sri Lanka made 201 in their first innings after reeling at 47/6 at one stage thanks to fighting knocks by debutant Kushal Perera and Rangana Herath. Ishant Sharma picked up a 5-wicket haul for India and was well supported by Umesh Yadav and Stuart Binny.Here are some interesting numbers from day 3 of the Test.

#1 Deja vu from 1st Innings

India’s second innings might just be 8.1 overs old, but it has been a reflection of the first innings in more ways than one.

1 - Sri Lanka got a wicket on the 2nd ball of this innings when Prasad dismissed Pujara. Similarly, in the first innings, Prasad got rid of Rahul of the 2nd ball of the innings.

2 - KL Rahul was bowled today leaving a ball of Pradeep pitching outside the off-stump. In the first innings, he fell off in the same manner when he left Prasad's delivery which knocked his off-stump.

3 - KL Rahul scored 2 runs in this innings, the same as in the first innings.

4 - Rahane was dismissed leg before wicket by Pradeep today, the same combination which accounted for the Indian No 3 in the first innings as well.

5 - 1 six was struck by India in the first innings courtesy of Rohit Sharma. In the second innings of India so far, only one six have been struck so far which also belongs to Rohit Sharma.

#2 Pujara carries his bat through the innings

1 - Chateshwar Pujara is the only player in the history of Test cricket to carry his bat through in the first innings and then get dismissed for a duck in the 2nd innings. For a duck in one innings and remaining undefeated in the other innings irrespective of order, he is the 4th man to achieve this feat with Bill Woodful, Geoffery Boycott and Saeed Anwar being the other three.

3 - number of instances before today when an Indian batsman has carried bat in a Test innings. Sunil Gavaskar, Virendar Sehwag and Rahul Dravid had carried their bat bat through before Pujara did it today.

31-18 – Out of total 49 bat-carries in Tests, 31 has come in away Tests, while only 18 were during home Tests.
0 - number of times an Indian batsman has carried his bat in a home Test. India has overall 4 bat-carries all of which came in away tests.
1 - number of instance before today bat was carried in a Test innings in Sri Lanka. Before Chateshwar Pujara, the other player to carry bat against Sri Lanka and in Sri Lanka was Virender Sehwag back in 2008 at The Galle.

145 - runs Pujara have scored in this match. It is the highest for any Indian opener at the SSC Colombo and the 2nd highest for an Indian opener in a Test match in Sri Lanka.

#3 Ishant Sharma\'s seventh five-for

5-54 Ishant Sharma's figures today is the best for any Indian pacer in Sri Lanka. The previous best was Venkatesh Prasad’s 5-72 at Kandy in 2001.

6 - five wicket hauls for Ishant Sharma in Test cricket when playing away from home, including his best figures of 7-74. His only five-for in a home Test match came against Pakistan at Bangalore in 2007.

#4 Perera\'s fifty and India\'s \'2nd ball\' issues

55 - runs scored by Kusal Perera on his Test debut, which is the 6th highest for a Sri Lankan wicket-keeper in their debuts.

98.21 - strike rate of Kusal Perera on his Test debut, which is by far the highest for any Sri Lankan wicket-keeper on debut.

3 – Indian wickets fell today. And all fell on the 2nd balls of the 1st, 4th and then the 6th over.
