Top 10: Highest run scorers in World T20

Srihari

In its relatively short history, the World T20 has already produced some memorable innings. Let us take a look at the all-time highest run scorers at the tournament.

#10 Yuvraj Singh (Ind)

The man who will forever be remembered for those six 6s off Stuart Broad, Yuvraj Singh is 10th on this list. Having scored 441 runs at a strike rate of over 140, India will be hoping that their southpaw comes good again, on his return to the side.

#9 Kamran Akmal (Pak)

In ninth place, with 476 runs is Kamran Akmal. A player, who makes in through sheer volume of games played, the Pakistani batsman doesn’t boast of a great World Cup record. Having played more games than anyone in the top ten, Akmal only just sneaks in.

#8 AB de Villiers (SA)

It seems as though no top ten list is complete without AB de Villiers, a man who has made a name for himself across all forms of the game. In eighth place with 478 runs, de Villiers will be keen on making his way up, before the end of this World Cup.

#7 G Gambhir (Ind)

Gautam Gambhir was one of the main reasons why India won the inaugural T20 World Cup and his exploits in that tournament and in the subsequent ones have earned him seventh place on this list. His 524 runs have come at a brisk pace and an average of 26.20.

#6 B McCullum (NZ)

The New Zealand skipper is one of the biggest hitters going around. And having played in each T20 World Cup thus far, unsurprisingly he features in sixth place with 552 runs in 21 matches at an average of 29 and a strike rate in the mid-120s.

#5 Kevin Pietersen (Eng)

In just 15 games, Kevin Pietersen showed just why he is one of the most destructive T20 players as he has 580 runs with the best average of anyone in the top ten and a strike rate of just under 150. England are sure to miss Pietersen and his explosive exploits at the start of the innings.

#4 Kumar Sangakkara (SL)

Kumar Sangakkara, is the first of three Sri Lankans on this list and shows just how strong they are in the batting department. The lanky left-hander has managed 590 runs in 25 matches and has scored more fours (75) than everyone bar Jayawardene.

#3 TM Dilshan (SL)

Third is Sri Lankan opening batsman T Dilshan, who has 632 runs in 25 matches at an average of 30 and strike rate of a tad under 130. The opener has been a big reason why the Lankans have been able to score big in the tournament thus far.

#2 Chris Gayle (WI)

Chris Gayle is arguably one of the most dangerous batsman in the world in any format. In T20s, he is even more lethal, so it should come as little surprise that he is second on the list with 664 runs. Those runs have come from just 18 matches in which he has averaged 44.26, with a phenomenal strike rate of over 150. He has more sixes (43) and fifties (6) than anybody else.

#1 Mahela Jayawardene (SL)

Jayawardene has racked up 858 runs in 25 matches at an average of almost 41. He has been extremely consistent and his five fifties puts him second behind only Gayle in list of most fifties. He has hit more fours than anyone else (91) and is fourth on the list of most sixes (22). The Lankans will surely miss their key batsman.
