10 famous musicians and their favourite football clubs

Enrique Iglesias, Justin Bieber and other famous musicians who support football clubsFan support is one of the most important aspects in the game of football. Some clubs have an immense worldwide following that makes them a popular brand. While some have a limited number of loyalists that are willing to stand by the team even if they aren’t as glamorous as the big boys. And one thing that certainly illuminates the sport is when celebrities and global personalities turn out to be supporters of any major European club. And after some research, we also managed to stumble upon several musicians who are fans of the game and possess a liking towards a club. With no further ado, let us take a look at these musicians and their favourite clubs.

#1 Justin Timberlake

He started his journey in the music industry with the boy band N-Sync which was a successful venture and he rose to prominence as the youngest member of the group. Later, he decided to take the solo highway which transformed into one of the biggest commercial artists of the decade.

But how did Justin end up as one of the Red Devils? That’s right. The multi platinum selling artist is a dedicated fan of Manchester United. It was perhaps the chance to meet with former Manchester United striker Alan Smith at the Lowry Hotel that inspired him to join the Old Trafford faithful.

Back in 2008 he had said, “I'm a Red! I'm mates with Smithy so he's my favorite player but Ronaldo doesn't suck either, he's awesome. I really like Rooney too.”

#2 Oasis

The band that brought you timeless hits from the 90’s such as “Wonderwall,” “Champagne Supernova,” and many more. Oasis, which is the brain child of the Gallagher brothers(Noel and Liam) are one of the iconic English Rock bands of all time.

And although the brothers have always had conflicts during their long music careers, they have always been United (No pun intended) in their love for Manchester City. Yes, they are life-long loyalists to the blue side of the city and have been often seen attending the games. The song “Wonderwall” is the one played at the Etihad stadium before kickoff.

Liam was there when City defeated United in 2012 to go to the top of the table which was echoed after the match by the vocalist, “What do you know lads? Top of the table!” While Noel revealed that he was crying like a baby when City lifted the Premier League title dramatically on final match day.

Noel is also a good friend of English midfielder Joey Barton. He also took part in the Umbro sponsored football kits unveiling with City captain and defender Vincent Kompany.

#3 Shakira

Well, this one must be obvious considering she dates FC Barcelona defender Gerard Pique and she even has a child with him. She has been often seen in the stands cheering on for the Spanish International and the Catalan club.

But the Colombian singer was actually a true Madridista from heart before her relationship with Pique. Real Madrid Florentino Perez even presented a No. 5 jersey to there a few years ago.

However, with the switch, she broke the one rule between the La Liga rivals which is never to change the loyalty and since her songs have been banned from being played at the Bernabeu. So it was kind of Figo all over again.

Pique though, always seems to keep her tensed with his defending as seen in the video below.

#4 Jay Z

When your favourite player is Thierry Henry, you already know where this one’s heading. American rapper and husband of Beyonce Knowles, Jay Z is a big time Gunner and has even attended their games most notably with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin during a game against Manchester United in 2013.

Jay Z also has stated in the past that he would be interested in investing some of his millions in Arsenal.

“I don't know a lot about the business of soccer, but in the future if the right opportunity presented itself, then who knows?”

#5 Enrique Iglesias

Spain’s one of all-time top selling artist Julio Iglesias is a die hard supporter of Real Madrid. The singer-songwriter had a small stint with the club as a goalkeeper with the Blancos if you didn’t know. But his dream of wearing the white jersey ended after a car accident and he turned into a great artist that he is today.

And his son Enrique is just like him, a Madridista. Enrique Iglesias is one of the renowned global artist and his music has been acclaimed worldwide. He was born in the Capital city of Spain and has remained loyal to the club even though he has been mostly in the US busy with his career in music.

His favourite players are Barcelona’s Lionel Messi (surprising), Madrid club captain Iker Casillas and former midfielder Xabi Alonso. Enrique even got the opportunity to click pictures with the Champions League trophy in the club’s museum.

#6 Adele

One of the flawless singers of our time, British singer-songwriter Adele is from Tottenham and she has remained true to her roots even though her fame has gone sky high globally.

Born in Tottenham, she has supported the Premier League since her childhood. The multi-time Grammy winner has been often spotted in the crowd with her boyfriend Simon Konecki.

Even though Spurs haven’t been performing as they are expected to, Adele has always backed and cheered the club with her full support.

#7 Justin Bieber

Now this guy even got to show off his skills on the football pitch during a training session of FC Barcelona. Canadian pop star Justin Bieber has been one of the biggest names in the music industry since he shot to fame in 2010 with his hit single “Baby.”

And in 2011, the 20-year-old visited the Camp Nou where he was seen practising with the team. Supporters gathered around to watch Bieber and if he is as good on the field as on the stage.

See for yourself in the video below.

#8 Katy Perry

How much she supports the Hammers, we practically have no clue about that. From contemporary Christian artist to a mainstream music bombshell, singer-songwriter Katy Perry has roared her way to the top of the music industry.

But her ex-husband, comedian Russel Brand, is a hardcore West Ham United supporter. And to demonstrate her support in Brand’s passion for the club, Perry wore a West Ham lingerie and appeared at the 2009 MTV Awards . Don’t know what to say about that.

#9 Zayn Louis and Harry Styles (One Direction)

In March 2013, One Direction’s Harry Styles announced to the world that he is a Manchester United fan after he performed on the stage by wearing the Red Devils’ jersey. The shirt had former defender Ferdinand’s name written behind it with whom he hanged out on the weekend before the show.

Reports suggested that Rio even kept his restaurant open until 2am so he could dine with the One Direction hunk after his show.

But the real problem is that the 20-year-old has been spotted on different venues and has put on jerseys of different clubs which is evident from the snapshots he has taken with the band.

So even if the English sensation is an avid Manchester United fan reportedly, David Moyes’s time in the club may have prompted him to take safety measures and vary his support publicly. And for the United faithful who don’t like that fact, cheer yourselves up with this video of Harry getting injured during an exhibition match.

With immortal classics like “Summer of 69,” “Everything I Do,” “Heaven” (and the list could go on), Bryan has truly been an inspiration over the last three decades.

And Chelsea fans can proudly claim that he is a supporter of the Blues. The club’s official site has Bryan listed in the celebrity fans section alongside other musical geniuses like Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), Billy Idol, Madonna and more.
