10 players who are better on FIFA 16 than in real life

FIFA 16 rating – 86

Let's face it, the FIFA series, especially its latest instalment, will go down in history as one of the greatest, most iconic game franchises of all time. Ever since its inception in 1993, developers EA have constantly strived to outdo themselves with each game and, as a result created, by far, one of the most addictive games known to man. However, what FIFA cannot do, despite all its greatness, is predict the form of players during the game's development, the result of which sees even the most horrendous underperformers appear almost god-like in the game. With that in mind, we take a look at 10 players who are better on FIFA than in real life.

#10 Bastian Schweinsteiger - Manchester United

FIFA 16 rating – 86

Bastian Schweinsteiger is one of the finest midfielders Germany has ever produced and will rightly go down as a legend. But his impact at Manchester United has been below par so far, for lack of a better word.

The classy German has produced flashes of brilliance for Manchester United this season. But this is a club that needs more than flashes. With a rating of 86 on FIFA 16, the 31-year-old is certainly a highly effective player in the game.

But in real life? Not so much!

#9 Branislav Ivanovic - Chelsea

FIFA 16 rating – 80

Branislav Ivanovic’s tank-like presence on the field was a big asset for Chelsea over the past couple of seasons. But the Serbian’s effect has alarmingly declined and was one of Chelsea’s chief underperformers before he was injured on international duty.

Age seems to be certainly catching up with the defender who, at 31, may not be able to play in the demanding role of a right-back for much longer. Ivanovic, who commands a rating of 80 on FIFA 16, is certainly more decent in the game than his current form and may soon see his rating dropped down to the 70s in the next edition.

#8 Leighton Baines - Everton

FIFA 16 rating – 83

The 2014/15 season was Leighton Baines’ most disappointing in years, with the left-back being regularly caught out of position during Everton’s sub-par campaign. Currently sidelined with an ankle injury, Baines is only more effective in FIFA 16, where he commands a rating of 83.

If his last season performance is anything to go by, that opinion can only be changed if he returns from injury as a better player. Nowhere near consideration for the England setup, his impact is clearly on the wane.

#7 Phil Jones - Manchester United

FIFA 16 rating – 80

The Englishman has certainly had a roller-coaster ride with Manchester United since his arrival in 2011. Once a promising talent, injuries and an unfixed position in the team have stunted Phil Jones’ promising potential over the years.

However, all is not lost for the centre-back, who is still extremely young and may well flourish under Louis van Gaal after returning from injury. Until then, he is only more effective in FIFA 16, where his position in the team is at least settled.

#6 Robin Van Persie - Fenerbahce

FIFA 16 rating – 84

Nobody could have predicted that Robin van Persie, who arrived at Manchester United in 2012 amid much fanfare, would exit the club in such a shocking fashion. But then again, he was already on the decline and was managed by the Iron Tulip.

Despite scoring 4 goals in 8 games for Fenerbahce, the Dutchman is still coming to grips with his life in Turkey and certainly doesn’t have to command a rating of 84 on FIFA 16. After a shocking performance in the Euro 2016 qualifiers where the Oranje failed to qualify, it is sad to say that Van Persie is lethal only in the game, with his form in real life as grey as his hair.

#5 Samir Nasri - Manchester City

FIFA 16 rating – 83

Despite signing a new five-year contract in 2014, last season was by far Samir Nasri’s most disappointing in a Manchester City shirt. The midfielder netted just two Premier League goals in 2014/15 and just doesn’t make the same impact he used to before.

Currently sidelined with an injury, the Frenchman will have to really pull up his socks if he hopes to break into City’s midfield and assume a more permanent role once again in the face of stiff competition from Raheem Sterling. Until then, his rating of 83 on FIFA 16 should be reduced as the only way to get the best out of him is in the game.

#4 Cesc Fabregas - Chelsea

FIFA 16 rating – 87

Cesc Fabregas’s return to the Premier League last season was rightly met with immense excitement. And the player didn’t disappoint, putting in some dynamic displays for Chelsea. But the Spaniard lost his form last winter and hasn’t seemed to have quite found it yet.

The midfielder is still to score for Chelsea in the Premier League this season and hasn’t had the desired effect on his beleaguered squad yet. The 28-year-old, who commands a rating of 87 on FIFA 16, is effective only in the game and may see his rating drop if he doesn’t turn his season around.

#3 Radamel Falcao

FIFA 16 rating – 83

Including Falcao on such a list is incredibly painful, because not so long ago the Colombian was one of the football’s most lethal strikers. He is hardly to blame for his dip in form, courtesy of a horrific knee injury while playing for Monaco.

The injury critically reduced the striker’s speed, which also took a toll on his goalscoring exploits once he moved to the demanding Premier League on loan with Manchester United last season. A move to Chelsea isn’t doing the Colombian much good either, and he could very well be at another club in January.

A rating of 83 is sadly too much for a player who has participated in just 8 matches with a return of one goal this season and a drop in his ratings would seem more accurate.

#2 John Terry

FIFA 16 rating – 85

A part of the Chelsea defence that conceded three goals against Liverpool this weekend, John Terry’s side’s performance against the Reds can easily sum up his season so far. The Englishman’s dramatic decline is nothing short of shocking, compared to the resurgence he experienced last season where he played a key part in Chelsea’s Premier League triumph.

Then again, Terry is set to turn 35 next month, which is a death knell for most centre backs. A rating of 85 on FIFA 16 seems too generous for Terry, who may well have played his last season for Chelsea and may very well end up in another league next season.

#1 Wayne Rooney - Manchester United

FIFA 16 rating – 86

The name that is the crowning jewel on this list is that of Wayne Rooney. The Manchester United skipper is a lot of things; he is England’s all-time top scorer, one of our generation’s greats and undoubtedly one of the greatest players of all time. A Manchester United legend but currently one of the Premier League’s most underperforming stars.

The decline may turn out to be temporary, but with the 30s officially setting in, the writing may just be appearing on the wall. The rating of 86 Rooney commands on FIFA 16 certainly needs to drop down a few notches, given the Englishman’s fall from grace and should be reserved for better performing stars.
