5 players who may leave the Premier League this summer

Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic recently announced that he would be leaving the club for Inter Milan this summer. Besides Vidic there are other players who look set to leave the Premier League this summer for various reasons; here's a list containing 5 of them.

#1 Pepe Reina

The Spaniard was shipped out on loan to Serie A side Napoli last summer after the arrival of Simon Mignolet from Sunderland and is currently having a stellar season with the Naples outfit. Reina has been very solid, keeping 8 clean sheets in 24 league games.

Mignolet has firmly established himself as Liverpool’s first choice keeper giving Reina a reason to make his Napoli deal permanent. Rafael Benitez, who managed Reina at Liverpool, will also be keen on Reina staying after his brilliant displays.

#2 Patrice Evra

The Frenchman has been a good servant for Manchester United but is simply not the same player who joined the Red Devils 8 years ago. Evra has had a largely forgettable season, and has been caught out of position defensively many times this term. The France international is also on the wrong side of 30 and will not be able to keep up with the pace of the Premier League for much longer.

David Moyes made it clear that he wanted a left-back when he attempted to sign Leighton Baines and Fabio Coentrao last summer and looks set to chase Luke Shaw this summer which could signal the end of Evra’s time with Manchester United. The 32-year-old’s agent has already stated that his client is considering his future and may move back to Serie A if he’s deemed surplus to requirements at Manchester United.

#3 Fernando Torres

The Spaniard was signed by Chelsea for a sum of £50 million in the winter of 2011 after scoring goals for fun at Liverpool but has been a major dud for the Blues scoring just 19 goals for them in the Premier League since the time he signed. Jose Mourinho has lost faith in his misfiring strikers and could sell Torres this summer in order to fund top target Diego Costa.

Roman Abramovich must be wincing each time he sees Torres miss a good chance and will certainly allow Mourinho to sell him during the summer transfer window. Torres himself must be disappointed with his fall from grace and may want a new challenge while he still has some playing years left in him. A move back to his homeland or the Serie A will be ideal for the striker.

#4 Erik Lamela

A lot of South American players have failed to shine in the Premier League and Lamela looks set to join the list. The Argentine was signed by Tottenham for a record fee of £25.8 million after a brilliant season with Roma but has failed to shine for the London club. Difficulty to adapt to the Premier League, along with injuries, have restricted Lamela to just 9 appearances for Spurs in the League this season.

The 22-year-old may not be included in his country’s World Cup squad due to his erratic displays at club level. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is desperate to improve the club's fortunes next season and may listen to offers from other clubs for Lamela in the summer. A move back to Italy where the Lamela lit up the Serie A would probably be best for the player.

#5 Nicklas Bendtner

Arsenal have been desperately trying to offload the Dane since 2012 but no club would take the striker on a permanent deal due to his wage demands of £50,000 per week. Arsene Wenger has used Bendtner just 8 times in the Premier League this season which shows the lack of faith the manager has in his player.

The 26-year-old’s recent drunken escapade back in his homeland did not impress his manager who hinted that Bendtner will not be an Arsenal player next season. Bendtner is out of contract this summer and will almost certainly not be offered a new deal by the Gunners. If the striker lowers his wage demands then he might potentialy have clubs outside the Premier League interested in him.
