Arsenal's kit evolution over the years

The Gunners have thrilled English football over the years, producing greats like Thierry Henry and Cesc Fabregas. Names that have become common on most tongues now days, all started at the red and white of Arsenal. Time has flown by, but their colors have remained strong. We look back at this fabilous club and the different jerseys they have donned through the years, playing for Arsenal.

#1 1990 - 1998

1990 – 1992: In the beginning of the 90s, Arsenal’s home kit was made by Adidas and their main sponsor was JVC. The colors were white and red, with red on the front and back of the shirt and white on the sleeves and shorts. The three famous lines of the Adidas ran down the length of the sleeves

1992 – 1994: Next season, it was again made by Adidas and had been given a touch of blue. Primarily the front and back were still red, as well as the stockings but the shorts and sleeves were white with a line of blue.

1994 – 1996: In 94, Arsenal finally made a new contract, this time with Nike and they came out with a slightly different look for Arsenal. Although similar to the previous two jerseys, it was slightly different at the shoulder, shorts and also has a collar. Also the stockings were now white with red stripes.

1996 – 1998: The following season, Nike tuned their design some more. They kept the top similar but made the shorts and stockings much more flamboyant with the design and the stylish ‘A’ inscribed on them.

#2 1998 - 2004

1998 – 1999: During this season, Arsenal’s Jersey was again a mix of red and white with a little bit of blue. The shirt was red except at the sides, while the shorts and sleeves were white and there was blue line running down the shirt and shorts, separating the red and white color. The stockings were red with a single line of white.

1999 – 2000: Arsenal changed sponsors and the name in the front now reads Dreamcast. Besides the change in name, there was no difference in this jersey and the previous season’s jersey.

2000 – 2002: For this season, Nike came out with another jersey, which again was similar to the previous two. The only changes were in the collar which was now red and the stockings white.

2002 – 2004: the sponsors again changed hands and now O2 was in the front. The jersey also changed. The collar was now gone and the new jersey was more white than red.

#3 2004 - 2010

2004 – 2005: Next season, the Gunners strutted their stuff about in pretty much the same looking Jersey. The only changes being the color of the stockings.

2005 – 2006: During this time, the Arsenal kit went through a drastic change. They ditched their usual, traditional red and white color norm and instead went for a sober maroon look. It looked simple and yet is considered one of the best by most fans

2006 – 2008: By this time, the time with O2 was done and the new sponsors were Fly Emirates. Nike went back to the traditional colors and made the jersey much like how it was made before.

2008 – 2010: The jersey more or less, stayed the same but sleeves were now made red with a white line and the shorts were fully white.

#4 2010 - 2014

2010 – 2011: In the following year, the jersey went even simpler, keeping the chest and back red and the shorts and sleeves were kept white.

2011 – 2012: This season’s Jersey was almost exactly like the previous season’s except for a red line that ran down the shorts and sleeves.

2012 – 2013: For this season, Nike again also used blue along with white and red to add a bit more color. The collar was now blue and the white stockings also had a band of blue and red on them.

2014 – 2015: Arsenal ended their long relationship with Nike and instead made a contract with Puma to take out their Jersey’s from now on. And from the look of how things are going, it looks like Puma is not going to disappoint. The jersey is red with a bit of white on the shoulder. The shorts are white with a red line on the sides and the stockings are striped in red and white.

#5 The Current

After signing a 150 million euro deal with Puma, Arsenal are now ready to take the stage with brand new kits designed by the sportswear powerhouse. Keeping the traditional colours of red and white for the home kit, Puma has experimented more on the two away kits.
