Angel Di Maria

Football fanatics like me live for the weekends. The weekend is that place where our minds find solace, where our hearts rejoice in the wonder that is the Premier League. But for fans who are mad about the Fantasy Premier League, the end of the week brings with it the time to ponder your next move. The time to analyze the upcoming schedules of all the team and awaken your sixth sense to make that perfect transfer. That’s where I come in. I do the hard work so that you can put your time to use elsewhere. Thank me later. Here are five players you should keep an eye for this gameweek in the Fantasy Premier League.

#1 Angel Di Maria (Manchester United)

Manchester United paid big money to bag Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid this summer; and big money walks hand in hand with bigger expectations. The fulfillment of those expectations took its first baby steps last week as Angel di Maria finally came to the fore with an outstanding 14 point performance against QPR. This included an assist and a goal, along with 3 bonus points to put the icing on the cake.

Manchester United finally delivered last gameweek and I expect them to kick-start their season with that victory. The opening run-in for Manchester United is still an incredibly good one and this week sees them go away to lowly Leicester.

With consecutive home matches against West Ham and Everton to folllow this game, it’s the perfect time to pick the Argentine winger.

#2 Nathan Dyer (Swansea City)

Nathan Dyer
Nathan Dyer and Gilfy Sigurdsson have been the dream pair for fantasy team managers so far.

Swansea are one of the form teams to begin the season and that’s what you should be capitalising on. While Gilfy Siggurdson has caught the attention of most fantasy team owners, Nathan Dyer has been flowing well below the radar in this regards.

Dyer, priced at an astoundingly low £5.7million has delivered similar results to Siggurdson (only 2 points less), but is priced £0.8million less than the Icelandic international. So you might have the bargain midfielder for the early season run-in you are looking for one in the Englishman.

While many may not find comfort in pitiing in Dyer while Swansea entertain Southampton this week, the Swans have enogh momentum going for them to start the game as favourites on their own backyard.

Looking beyond this week’s fixture, the owners can find the South Wales side having home fixtures against the struggling duo of Newcastle and Leicester in the near future as well. Meanwhile away games to Southampton and Stoke shouldn’t really cause any headache either.

#3 Nacer Chadli (Tottenham)

Nacer Chadli

Timing is every thing in fantasy games. It doesn’t matter if the player in your team is leading the point charts in the entire Fantasy Premier League table, what matters is whether you had him in the weeks he scored big.

So, the moral of the story should be that you should hit the iron while it’s hot. That’s where Nacer Chadli comes in. Speaking of hot, Chadli is in a form that’s as red as it will ever be. The Belgian international has scored 3 goals in his last 3 games and now sees himself facing a struggling West Brom team who visits White Hart Lane this Sunday.

The long term value of Chadli doesn’t look really promising with Tottenham scheduled for visits to The Emirates and The Eithad withing the next four gameweeks. However, if you have two free transfer to your name and are looking for an inexpensive impact player for this Gameweek, Chadli is the man for you.

#4 A Stoke/Swansea defensive duo

Neil Taylor
Neil Taylor and the Swansea defence has impressed so far this season.

Finding the right midfielder/forward will always be the key for you to score those high Gameweek scores. But for you to afford those marquee forwards/midfielder for the price they command, you should also be able to find those inexpensive defenders that while not giving you huge points at the back, can certainly keep the score tickling.

Swansea and Stoke form a great rotation pair in the early part of the Fantasy Premier League season. For those who don’t know what a rotation duo is; it’s basically a couple of teams who rotate between home and away every other weekend in the Premier League.

So, if you’re looking for that vital pair, Swansea and Stoke should be the pair you should be looking at. The duo gives you a best combination run-in of Southampton (Home), Newcastle (Home), Newcastle (Home), Swansea(Home), Leicester(Home) and West Ham(Home) in the next six games.

So you can easily bag an effective combination of Neil Taylor and Marc Wilson for your team for a paltry sum of £9million.

#5 Steven Naismith (Everton)

Steven Naismith
Steven Naismith celebrates after scoring against Chelsea in Gameweek 3.

I said it last week and I will say it again. Steven Naismith can become the bargain forward of the decade in the Fantasy Premier League. With the Scottish international firmly embedded into Roberto Martinez’s scheme of things going forward Naismith should continue to play in the hole behind Romelu Lukaku.

With struggling Crystal Palace visiting Goodison Park this weekend, the probability of Naismith giving you those valuable points on the cheap has just taken a sharp turn towards for the better. If anyone is looking at a cheap option upfront Naismith is still the guy the put your faith on.

#6 Punt of the week: Abel Hernandez (Hull)

Abel Hernandez
Abel Hernandez celebreates scoring against West Ham last Monday.

There is one thing that Abel Hernandez is known for across the footballing world; that’s pace. That’s also something Newcastle have had nightmares at the back dealing with. Fabricio Coloccini and Mike Williamson were disrobed of all of their pride last week by Shane Long as the duo struggled to get any sense of checking the timely runs of the Irish international.

With Abel Hernandez expected to lead the Hull line this week against a Newcastle team that is in turmoil, you won’t be very wrong if you sense that Hernandez can get his fair share of points from this fixture.
