Maicon da Silva

The fever of FIFA 16 has begun and gamers and FIFA enthusiasts all over the world cannot wait to put their hands on the latest installment that is set to be released this September 22. We have already reviewed the demo that was made available by Electronic Arts earlier this week, packing all new features that made the gameplay we all know and love even smoother and better.Throughout these years, speed has had a major say on how gamers would pick players for their team as speed does prove to be an easy measure to exploit your opponents’ weaknesses. Imagine having a Gareth Bale on your left wing. Yeah, I wouldn’t play Marc Barta even if I had to keep 10 players on the pitch (not that the game engine would let me do that now, will it?)But, who are the fastest in this year’s installment? Let’s find out.

#10 Maicon da Silva

Pace: 95

Club: Livorno

The 21-year old right winger plays for A.S. Livorno Calcio, a second division Italian club. Apart from Maicon’s sprint speed, nothing really stands out as his overall rankings stood at 63 in the latest FIFA patch with a potential to go up to as much as 70.

However, Electronic Arts have decided to give his sprint speed a +5 upgrade in their latest FIFA installment, making him the 10th fastest player in the game.

#9 Salif Dianda

Pace: 95

Club: Ternana

Salif is all about the movement as his attributes reflect. With a +3 upgrade in terms of sprint speed from FIFA’s latest patch, Salif finds himself among the fastest men in the game.

The Burkina Faso midfielder currently plays for Serie B side Ternana Calcio. With an overall rating of 66 and a potential to grow up 68, Dianda might not be the most favourable player. But his movement off and on the ball is quite impressive. Add a stamina rating of 89+ to that.

Pace: 95

Club: Stabæk Fotball

Indian goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu will be proud to know that his teammate at Stabæk is the 8th fastest player in FIFA 16. Ernest Asante is a Ghanian-born winger who currently plays for Norwegian side Stabæk. With an acceleration rating of 94 and sprint speed of 95, Asante is pretty fast with and without the ball.

However considering his age, the 27-year old’s overall rating of 64 is unlikely to improve by a big margin in FIFA 16.

#7 Jurgen Damm

It’s Jürgen..

Jrgen Damm

Pace: 95

Club: Tigres U.A.N.L.

Jurgen Damm is considered as one of the most promising players who is currently playing the Mexican Premier League. And he recently made his senior team debut for the Mexican national team. He could be the second fastest player according to the statistics, but how fast is he really?

Bale has been recorded to have clocked a high speed of 36.9 km/hr with the ball at his feet, followed by Damm almost catching up with the Welshman’s speeding prowess with 35.25 km/hr. In the September patch of FIFA 15, Damm’s acceleration attribute stood at 94 while it was 95 for his sprint speed.

So, his overall rating (72) is likely to remain the same in FIFA 16. Here’s a look at his speed.

#5 Victor Ibarbo

Vctor Ibarbo
Ibarbo is both fast and strong

Pace: 95

Club: AS Roma

It won’t be surprising if the scouts of AS Roma have been playing a lot of FIFA. First Seydou Doumbia, and now Ibarbo. Even though Doumbia didn’t feel at ease at Roma last season and has since been loaned to CSKA Moscow, Ibarbo could fit right in.

Unlike many others in this list, Ibarbo is relatively strong with his feet and is physically well built. He was given an overall rating of 78 in FIFA 15 with the potential to grow up to 81, and it is likely that the attributes will remain unchanged.

#4 Inaki Williams

Williams
Iñaki Williams – The 21-year old striker from Bilbao

Pace: 95

Club: Athletic Club Bilbao

Inaki Williams makes an appearance in this list with the Athletic Bilbao youngster sitting in the 4th spot. Williams’ pace was rated at 80 in the previous installment, but EA have decided to give him a major pace upgrade of +15 points in FIFA 16.

Williams’ pace will give him an edge over others as he is seen dominant during aieral duels. However, the Ghanaian-origin winger would want to work on his passing and off the ball attributes. Williams had an overall rating of 73 (Sprint Speed: 94) in FIFA 15’s latest September 5 update with the potential to go up to 82. This is likely to increase in FIFA 16.

A player who can play on the wings and also in a central role, it should also be mentioned that Williams has the tendency to injure himself more often than the rest. Something to keep in mind if you plan to buy him for your team.

"Our Father Who art in heaven hallowed be Thy name,Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven,Forgive us our daily trespasses and forgive those who trespass against us,And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil,Amen!"

According to most and the guy who came up with the aforementioned joke, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is criminally underrated in FIFA. But despite his rating of 82 in FIFA 16, the Borussia Dortmund striker will continue to be one of those players who are simply unstoppable.

With a pace rating of 95, acceleration rating of 96 and sprint speed of 95, Aubameyang is the fastest striker in the game.

#2 Mathis Bolly

Mathis Bolly
All smiles for Mathis Bolly

Pace: 96

Club: Fortuna Düsseldorf

‘It’s all about the pace. No dribble’

Mathis Bolly continues to be one of the fastest players in FIFA, and has overtaken Gareth Bale this year with the Welsh winger moving to the third spot. Bolly plays for Bundesliga second-division club Fortuna Düsseldorf. And by the looks of it, he isn’t very impressive as a player, keeping his speed aside.

He could, however, be used as a great super substitute as many gamers have used him in the previous installment. In FIFA 15’s latest update, the Norwegian-Ivorian footballer has an overall rating of 64 with the potential to rise up to 69.

#1 Theo Walcott

Theo Walcott
Run Theo, Run!

Pace: 96

Club: Arsenal

Matthis Bolly has a new partner in the top seat as Arsenal’s Theo Walcott joins him after the England International was given a +1 bump on his speed attributes, thus overtaking Gareth Bale who was faster in the previous installment. Walcott’s acceleration and sprint attributes in FIFA 15’s latest update were 97 and 96 respectively, making him the fastest player in the game. The same would be the case in FIFA 16.

This could come as a shock to Walcott’s Arsenal teammate Hector Bellerin who had revealed in late August that he beat the English winger twice in a 40-metre sprint race.

Walcott’s assist for Emmanuel Adebayor in the second leg of the 2008 Champions League quarter-finals at Anfield is one of the many examples when he broke into ‘sonic speed’ if I may, sprinting past players like a road runner evading the Wile E Coyote.

The goal was voted as the greatest assist by a Gunner by the club’s official website back in 2010, and it deserved every bit of the attention.
