Goals of the Week: 8th September - 16 September

After a week long international break, football is back this week in its full form. From the Premier League to La Liga to Serie A, these week has seen goals that were definitely out of the ordinary. Here are the top ten goals of the week from all around the world in no particular order:

Arda Turan was the talk of the town after he scored the winner against Atletico Madrid’s local rivals Real Madrid following a dummy from Raul Garcia.

#7 Adam Johnson - Sunderland vs Tottenham

Sunderland’s Adam Johnson scored from a sublime effort last Saturday during their Premier League tie against Tottenham after finding his way through the opponent’s defence followed by a clean, composed finish.

#6 Hakan Calhanoglu - Bayer Leverkusen vs Werder Bremen

Bayer Leverkusen’s Hakan Calhanoglu scored his first goal of the season with a curling effort from a free-kick during his side’s 3-3 encounter against Werder Bremen on Friday.

#5 Alexis Sanchez - Arsenal vs Manchester City

Alexis Sanchez is already showcasing his brilliance in the Premier League, and his goal against Manchester City was one of the testaments. The Chilean forward gave Arsenal a 2-1 lead which was however shortlived.

#4 Gareth Bale - Wales vs Andorra

When people say, Wales is all about Gareth Bale, they might actually have a point. From trailing a goal behind, Bale lead Wales to a narrow 2-1 win over Andorra this past week with a penalty and this marvelous free kick.

#3 Romelu Lukaku - Everton vs West Brom

Talk about goals with curls, Romelu Lukaku’ s goal against West Brom is one of the good examples. It took the former Chelsea striker only 2 minutes to get off the mark, and surprisingly he refused to celebrate out of respect for his former team.

#2 Son Heung-min - Bayer Leverkusen vs Werder Bremen

During the match-up between Bayern Leverkusen and Werder Bremen which ended with a 3-3 scoreline, Werder Bremen’s Son Heung-min scored following an effort from outside the edge of the box with a left-footed shot in the 73rd minute.

#1 Jeremy Menez - AC Milan vs Parma

One of AC Milan's newest addition to the squad, French forward Jeremy Menez scored the cheekiest goal of the year during his club’s 5-4 away win against Parma in a Serie A clash. Latching onto a defensive mistake, he nudged the ball past the goalkeeper, outran him and then backheeled it into the net to give his side a 5-3 lead in the 78th minute.
