Highest individual score in IPL history

Srihari

In its relatively short history, IPL has certainly had plenty of big hitters come to the party. With the likes of Chris Gayle, Brendon McCullum and Kieran Pollard, IPL has seen batsman who dont need too many balls to score runs. But, who has the highest score? Let us take a look.

#10 Sanath Jayasuriya - 114*

In 10th place is one of the most destructive batsman of his generation. Sanath Jayasuriyas 114* off just 48 balls against Chennai Super Kings in the first edition of the IPL still remains the highest score by a Mumbai Indians batsman. His knock included 11 sixes and 9 fours at a phenomenal strike rate of 237.5

#9 Shaun Marsh - 115

The winner of the first-ever Orange Cap, Shaun Marshs 115(69) against Rajasthan Royals is enough to seal ninth spot on this list. In an innings that was about timing and placement, Marsh hit 7 sixes and 11 fours on his way to his one and only century in IPL.

#8 Michael Hussey - 116*

The ever-dependable Mike Hussey finds himself in eighth place, thanks to his belligerent 116* off just 54 balls. The Australian southpaw hit 9 sixes and 8 fours in an innings that helped the CSK register the biggest score in IPL history - a record that stood for two years.

#7 Andrew Symonds - 117*

Andrew Symonds’s 117*(53) is the seventh highest score in IPL and the highest made by an Australian batsman. The right-hander’s brutal assault on the Rajasthan bowling attack saw him score 7 sixes and 11 fours at a strike rate of 220.7.

#6 Virender Sehwag - 119

In a list that is dominated by foreigners, Sehwag’s 119 off just 56 balls against the Deccan Charges in the fourth edition of the IPL sees him in sixth place. His innings included 6 sixes and 13 fours and remains the highest score by a Delhi batsman till date.

#5 Paul Valthaty - 120*

Paul Valthaty’s knock of 120*(63) against Chennai Super Kings, was the Indian batsman’s ticket to fame. His innings included 19 fours - the most in an innings by any batsman in IPL history, to go along with his 2 sixes. Although he hasn’t replicated it since, that innings is good enough for fifth place on this list.

#4 Murali Vijay - 127

One of only four players to have more than a single 100 to his name, Murali Vijays 127 off just 56 balls against the Rajasthan Royals is the fourth highest individual score in IPL history. Not only that, it is also the highest score made by an Indian player in the history of IPL.

#3 Chris Gayle - 128*

Few can hit a cricket ball as long and as hard as Chris Gayle can and his 128*(62) against Delhi Daredevils was certainly proof of that. It was an innings that saw him hit 13 sixes and 7 fours and notch his third ton in IPL, which is good enough for third place on the list.

#2 Brendon McCullum - 158*

In the very first IPL match, Brendon McCullum scored 158* off just 73 balls against Royal Challengers Bangalore to set the tone for what was to come next. His innings included 13 sixes and 10 fours and was the highest score in IPL history until last year.

#1 Chris Gayle - 175*

Unsurprisingly, it is Chris Gayle who claims top spot with his 175* off just 66 against Pune Warriors in last year’s IPL. It was a record-breaking ton in more ways than one, as it saw him hit 17 sixes and 13 fours and help Bangalore to the highest score in IPL history. It was also his fourth century in IPL, another record that is unlikely to be broken anytime soon.

Will anybody beat that this year? Only time will tell.
