India tour of Bangladesh and England: 5 surprise inclusions in the team

The Indian team was recently announced for their tour of Bangladesh and England. As expected, the selectors went withyoung gunsfor the Bangladesh tour. Dhoni, Kohli, Rohit Sharma and a few other big names were rested ahead of the long season. On the other hand, for the EnglandTest series, Gambhir gets a much deserved return to the squad, bringing solid strengthto the toporder. There are quitea few shocking inclusions as well though. Whether good or bad, it will be clear over the next few months. For the moment, let us have a look at these 5 players who got a surprisecall up from the selectors:

#5 Parvez Rasool

He was selected last year for the tour of Zimbabwe last year but was never given a chance to come down to the field and show his talents.

Rasool made his debut for J&K in the 2008-09 season and has played 28 first-class matches, scoring 1617 runs and taking 78 wickets. In 2012-13 season, Rasool was extraordinary for his team and scored 594 runs and picked up 38 wickets in 7 matches, hence becoming the most successful J&K player in a season in the history.

He was not given much to do in IPL but he can flip the match around on his own.

His inclusion comes in as a pleasant surprise.

#4 Kedar Jadhav

With an amazing average of 50 in first class and over 47 in list A, it was only a matter of time before he was given a chance to represent India. The top scorer of this Ranji season with 1223 runs for Maharashtra , Jadhav after playing over 50 first class matches, was finally able to get the selectors notice him.

This 30-year-old domestic veteran has been a fruitful investment for Delhi Daredevils and has been extremely destructive in the middle order. His ability to switch gears and improvise makes him lethal for his team.

The Bangladesh tour can prove to be a turning point for his career and his inclusion is yet another surprise that will please fans across the country. Beware Bangladesh!

#3 Akshar Patel

Just like his team, Kings XI Punjab, this 19-year-old debutant has been sensational this IPL season. 17 wickets in 16 matches and some valuable innings down the order has propelled him for a national call up despite his inexperience at domestic level.

He was a key member in India’s U-23 ACC emerging teams cup with 7 wickets to his credit.

He is a very exciting prospect who can play a crucial role in an inexperienced looking squad of India which is heading to Bangladesh.

He is relatively untested for big leagues so this inclusion is a bit of risk on part of the think tank, one which is for good.

#2 Stuart Binny

Stuart Binny, a regular name in Rajasthan Royals squad, has been a crucial spoke in the wheel for the Royals.

He has been a leading run-scorer for Karnataka during last few years and has also led the side a few times. He is a useful medium-pacer known for breaking partnerships.

The son of legendary Roger Binny, Stuart has been a seasoned campaigner and got a couple of calls from the selectors in the past too. Alas! He was not able to convert them into success.

This time, Binny has been selected for both Bangladesh and English tours. An extended squad of 18 players is going to the Britain and its understandable looking at recent failures on foreign soil.

But to get a call up for Test series in England was not something many expected for Binny. There are already many set names in the side. This entire dynamics makes this selection a pretty shocking one.

But not more than the man who is next...

#1 Pankaj Singh

One of the most consistent performers at domestic level, he has been amongst the top bowlers for many years.

Fate has not been kind upon this hard working, small town boy from Uttar Pradesh.

He was selected for the Border-Gavaskar trophy series in Australia in 2007-2008 but never made it to the playing squad. He has made several pleas to the board for one opportunity.

He has picked more than 300 wickets for Rajasthan at first-class level and continues to be their bowling spearhead. He was a star performer for the team during their successful run in 2010-11. If he gets to debut this time, he will become the highest wicket-taker at domestic level before debuting for National team.

In his own words,"I have a dream of playing for India. I want to be in the Indian team and for that no matter how much hard work I had to do, no matter how many wickets I had to take, I just told myself I had to do it. That is how now I have got it. It was like, abhi nahi to kabhi nahi. THIS IS THE BIGGEST MOMENT OF MY LIFE".

After losing all hopes, he has finally got what he deserved.

He is a seasoned campaigner and can prove to be a trump card for India in the swinging conditions of England.
