ISL domestic players draft: Top ten price tags of IMG-Reliance contracted players

54 IMG-Reliance contracted players were part of the historic two-day Indian Super League domestic draft with 30 other players coming from four different I-League clubs. These 54 players were divided among six ISL franchises over 14 rounds of draft picks. Each of the players were free agents who were contracted to IMG-R but now belong to their respective franchises. Each player had a price tag on them and they would also get a percentage of the loan fee which each franchise will be paid when the players are loaned out to I-League clubs during the off-season of the ISL. Over 24 crore was spent over two days. Sportskeeda lists the top ten price tags.

#10 35 lakh + 33% loan fee share

Sandesh Jhingan – The versatile young defender is very highly rated by Bhaichung Bhutia and is part of India’s Asian Games camp in Czech Republic. Despite having just two seasons of I-League experience, Sandesh was Trevor Morgan’s second pick for Kerala Blasters.

Team: Kerala Blasters FC

Position: Centre/Right/Left Back

Draft pick: Round 2

#9 37 lakh + 65% loan fee share

Subhashish Roychowdhury – The 28-year-old returns to Kolkata after spending the last eight years of his career outside Bengal. Subhashish was one of the most expensive goalkeepers and is the only custodian in the Kolkata franchise’s domestic list.

Team: Atletico de Kolkata

Position: Goalkeeper

Draft pick: Round 11

#8 37.5 lakh + 50% loan fee share

Dharmaraj Ravanan – The defender is another former Churchill Brothers player in the Pune team and fully deserves his expensive price tag for being one of the most consistent centre-backs in the last three seasons. He may be used as a right back too with centre-backs up for grabs in the foreign drafts.

Team: Pune

Position: Centre/Right/Left Back

Draft pick: Round 2

Arindam Bhattacharya – India U-23’s SAFF Cup 2009 hero had to wait until the tenth round to get picked and just like at Churchill Brothers, the custodian would be having Lalit Thapa as one of his competitors at Pune for a regular place with the franchise also expected to recruit a foreign keeper.

Team: Pune

Position: Goalkeeper

Draft pick: Round 10

#7 38 lakh + 25% loan fee share

Manish Maithani – The midfielder didn’t have a great campaign with Mohammedan Sporting last season as the Kolkata club suffered relegation but was among the expensive players. Being the sixth pick suggests he may not be considered a first team regular by Pune.

Team: Pune

Position: Central/Right Midfield

Draft pick: Round 6

#6 39 lakh + 33% loan fee share

Sushil Kumar Singh – The former India U-23 captain has been under contract with IMG-R since last year but failed to get an I-League club last season. Being a forward he is among the highest paid Indian players but being a last round pick suggests he will be a backup strike for Mumbai.

Team: Mumbai

Position: Forward

Draft pick: Round 14

#5 42 lakh + 33% loan fee share

Manandeep Singh – The 21-year-old has the potential to be one of India’s best strikers and hence the heavy price tag. But the former East Bengal striker has been troubled by injuries for more than a year now so franchises were reluctant to pick him until the final round when Delhi roped him in.

Team: Delhi Dynamos FC

Position: Forward

Draft pick: Round 14

#4 44 lakh + 50% loan fee share

Denzil Franco – The former Churchill Brothers defender has been the India senior national team’s first-choice right back in the last three matches. Not too many right backs are expected in foreigners pool so Denzil should be a regular starter for Atletico de Kolkata.

Team: Atletico de Kolkata

Position: Right Back

Draft pick: Round 3

#3 55 lakh

Francis Fernandes (35% loan fee share) – The 27-year-old has been a regular in India’s starting XI since November 2011 and recently left Salgaocar despite being their captain to play in the ISL. Francis was Delhi’s first choice of course and sixth pick overall in the first round of the drafts.

Team: Delhi Dynamos FC

Position: Right/Left/Attacking Midfield

Draft pick: Round 1

Lenny Rodrigues (55% loan fee share) – The 2013 FPAI Indian player of the year was one of four players who left Churchill Brothers this month to join the ISL bandwagon. He has ensured himself a place in ISL history as he was the first-ever player to be picked in the inaugural season’s domestic drafts

Team: Pune

Position: Central Midfield

Draft pick: Round 1

#2 70 lakh +33% loan fee share

Nirmal Chettri – Despite being only 23, the defender is highly experienced, having played for each of three big clubs of Kolkata. Hence he was one of most expensive players and it wasn’t a surprise to see him get picked by his former East Bengal coach Trevor Morgan.

Team: Kerala Blasters FC

Position: Right/Centre Back

Draft pick: Round 5

Sanju Pradhan – The former East Bengal captain was a surprise omission from the day one of the draft picks. Perhaps the fact that he didn’t play much in last season’s I-League played a part but the Kolkata franchise selected him in the very first round of second day.

Team: Atletico de Kolkata

Position: Right Midfield

Draft pick: Round 8

#1 80 lakh +33% loan fee share

Subrata Pal – Only the third Indian player to ply his trade in Europe, Subrata, who had a stint in Denmark’s FC Vestsjaelland, was one of the biggest names of the domestic players’ pool. India’s number one was the second player to get picked in round one of the draft and is expected to be the first-choice keeper of the Mumbai franchise.

Team: Mumbai

Position: Goalkeeper

Draft pick: Round 1

Gouramangi Singh – One of India’s most capped players at international level was always going to be in the top bracket. With franchises expected to get foreign centre-backs, the 2010 AIFF Player of the Year had to wait until round four to get picked by Bengaluru. It remains to be seen if he gets to be a regular.

Team: Bengaluru

Position: Centre Back

Draft pick: Round 4

Syed Rahim Nabi – Many people expected India’s Mr Versatile to get picked in round one but perhaps his drop of form and fitness in the last 12 months played on the minds of the franchises. However the Mumbai franchise later revealed that Nabi was one of their top choices and hence were happy to pick him up in round 3.

Team: Mumbai

Position: Right/Left Back, Right/Left Midfield

Draft pick: Round 3
