NBA: 2014-15 Season Awards (Probables)

With the post-season hanging around the corner this April and the General Season coming to an end, it's time to look into various probables of the awards handed out by NBA at the end of every general season. This is to see who might take the NBA Hardware home.Note: These are purely my Opinions and are based on statistics and performance reviews.

#1 Rookie of the year

The 'Rookie of the Year' title goes to:ANDREW WIGGINS, SG, MINNESOTA TIMERWOLVESAt the begining of the season, everyone's fingers pointed out to Jabari Parker for the 'Rookie of the Year' title. But it so happened that very early into the season, Jabari Parker had his set of injuries that ended his season. Then, there was only one other name that came for the title as there was no real competition for him: Wiggins.

Although the Minnesota Timberwolves have been unwatchable at times since the Kevin Love trade and how the team has constanly struggled this season, Wiggins is progressing rapidly, making the team's decision to trade Love look smarter by the game.

  • Points: 15.2
  • FG Pct.: 43% (299-693)
  • 3-Pt Pct.: 36% (34-95)
  • FT Pct.: 74% (174-236)
  • Rebounds: 4.3
  • Assists: 1.9
  • Steals: 1.1
  • HONORABLE MENTION: Nerlens Noel

#2 Most Improved Player

The ‘Most Improved Player’ of this season is:

JIMMY BUTLER, G/F, CHICAGO BULLS

This season, Jimmy Butler virtually came out of nowhere to become one of the bigger surprises in the NBA. “Butler is a franchise talent on both ends of the floor—and the Bulls will have to treat him as such when he hits restricted free agency at season's end. Chicago has to keep a max-contract offer ready for his signature, because this franchise cannot proceed without him serving as its key component.“ wrote Zach Buckley in a Bleacher Report Article.

The major fact that makes him most improved is the fact that he had a vast improvement in the points scored and his accuracy. It gave a huge boost to the Bulls and after Rose’s injury as he became the man, opponents should look out for. He has either improved or stayed the exact same across every single statistical category.

2014-15 NBA Season Stats per Game (2013-14 Stats)

  • Points: 20.3 (13.1)
  • FG Pct: 46% (40%)
  • 3-Pt Pct: 35% (28%)
  • FT Pct: 84% (77%)
  • Rebounds: 5.9 (4.9)
  • Assists: 3.2 (2.6)
  • Steals: 1.7 (1.9)
  • Turnovers: 1.5 (1.5)
  • HONORABLE MENTIONS: Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Goran Dragic

#3 Sixth Man of the Year

The '6th Man of the Year' is:

LOUIS WILLIAMS, SG, TORONTO RAPTORS

Toronto already leans heavily on its starting backcourt of Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan. Without Williams, that dependency would likely reach dangerous levels. In effect, Williams keep the Raptors afloat as a winning outfit by taking the load off Lowry and DeRozan. His stats and effectiveness at various situations on-field has proved very friendly to the Raptors.

His move from the hawks in the offseason was not a catchy move, but turned out to become a great move for the Raptors. He has become one of the biggest factors in Toronto’s offense. He checks into the game and helps keep the offense going, while DeMar DeRozan rests or misses time due to injury.

His numbers aren’t the best and he is kind of one dimensional, he is a scorer, but he has the factor that has propelled his team to one of the best records in the Eastern Conference. He just comes out there and tries his best for the W.'

2014-15 NBA Season Stats (Per Game)

  • Points: 15.2
  • FG Pct: 40%
  • 3-Pt Pct: 33%
  • Rebounds: 1.8
  • Assists: 2.0
  • Steals: 1.1
  • Turnovers: 1.2
  • HONORABLE MENTIONS: Taj Gibson, Marreese Speights, Jamal Crawford

#4 Defensive Player of the Year

The ‘Defensive Player of the Year’ title goes to:

ANTHONY DAVIS, C/F, New Orleans Pelicans

Regardless of the number of games Anthony Davis has missed or will miss due to injury, this guy is a beast. Tyson Chandler, DeAndre Jordan and Joakim Noah are few of the best defenders in the NBA and even they can’t come close to what Anthony Davis is capable of. Anthony has improved every year since his rookie campaign, just as a young NBA star should develop. He is currently having a dream run, and possibly a run for the MVP award (which is unlikely due to the # of games missed) with his amazing defensive as well as offensive stats (points in general).

Davis is a tenacious defender with outstanding ability to block, steal and rebound with an ferocious wingspan of 7’4”. No doubt, he was a beast this season.

  • Points: 24.5
  • FG Pct.: 53%
  • FT Pct.: 81%
  • Rebounds: 10.4
  • Assists: 2.1
  • Steals: 1.4
  • Blocks: 2.9

HONORABLE MENTION: Draymond Green

#5 Coach of the year

The title 'Coach of the Year’ goes to:

STEVE KERR, GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS

This man, Steve Kerr has taken Golden State Warriors to another level. Just recently clinching the Pacific Division title, losing only 2 games at home so far has led the Warriors to a record (Wins-Loss) of 62-13. He took the best use of every single man on the roster and turned them to a team looking ahead to take home the NBA Championship.

This man has also coached the West team in All-Star game alongside his Atlanta Coach Mike Budenholzer who coched the East team. The West had won the All-Star game 2015.

HONORABLE MENTIONS: Mike Budenholzer (Hawks), Doc Rivers (Clippers).

#6 Most Valuable Player

The 2014-15 NBA Season MVP is:

STEPHEN CURRY, PG, GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS

Many arguements might begin with this desicion considering James Harden's, Russell Westbrook’s and Antony Davis’ amazing seasons too. But Curry has been the most consistent of all, has played the most games and we all knew about his range and accuracy. But what we didn’t expect was his leadership being able to lead his Warriors to the NBA’s best record and the top playoff spot in the Western Conference. He has led the team for an amazing season, and that some are also calling that this is the season of Stephen Curry.

Curry leads the NBA in plus-minus (the point difference of the score while on the court) at 11.6. Harden is 28th at 4.5. LeBron James and Westbrook have missed out many games. Westbrook has also taken the Thunder's fight for 8th seed on his own shoulders by having 10 Triple-Doubles recently, but shoots a lot compared to any other in the season as he shoots upto 25+ shots in almost every game.

Anthony Davis has been phenomenal on both ends of court, but has missed out on many games and has'nt been able to carry the Pelicans forward as they are struggling hard for that 8th seed.

Of all ,the major reason has been that Curry has been consistent and led the team for an amazing record of 62-13. Looking at his stats this season, he might just miss out on entering the 50-40-90 Club which is 50% Field-Goals, 40% from Downtown, and 90% from the Freethrow Line.

2014-15 Stats (Per Game)

  • Points: 23.8
  • FG Pct.: 48.2%
  • 3-Pt Pct.: 43%
  • FT Pct.: 91%
  • Assists: 7.8
  • Rebounds: 4.3
  • Steals: 2.05 (150, Leads NBA in terms of total Steals )

HONORABLE MENTIONS (in order of likeleness, *unlikely winners): James Harden(1), Russell Westbrook(2*), LeBron James(3*), Anthony Davis(4*)
