Premier League: 5 things to watch out for this weekend

While Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea will be looking to add on their laurels by stretching their unbeaten streak to 13 games this weekend, Manchester City will be looking to remain in the race as the reigning Champions will visit the high flying Saints on Sunday. On the other end of the table, teams like Leicester and Crystal Palace will look to add on to their points tally before going into the busy Christmas schedule next month. Here are the 5 things to watch out for this weekend in the Premier League:

#1 Are Southampton in the top 4 race for real?

Southampton are coming into this match on a 6 match unbeaten streak and when the Saints will host the reigning Champions at their home ground, a win would grant them an enormous stature amongst the Premier League power-houses. Last time they lost a match was away to Tottenham on White Hart Lane and since then the Saints have scored 16 goals in the next 6 matches winning 5 out of them.

However on the other hand in a scenario which is more than expected, a defeat will certainly test the credentials of the Saints who are going for a top 4 finish this season. And with teams like Chelsea coming in to test their mettle next month, Ronald Koeman’s men would be itching for a head-start this weekend.

#2 Has the tide turned for Manchester United?

When Manchester United came out from the Emirates with 3 points last Sunday courtesy to a Kieran Gibbs own goal and a late Wayne Rooney surge, hope was in the air amongst the Red Devil faithful to use this win as a catapult for their season.

Even though they won the match, anyone who watched the match might claim that Arsenal were the better team for the 90 minutes. However, if Manchester United might be able to see of a distraught Hull City side at home, odds will be in their favor to be in top 4 this season.

#3 Can Liverpool make a comeback?

Last time Liverpool managed a victory in Premier League was way back on 19th October when the reds saw off QPR 3-2 away from home. Since then coming into this match in all competitions, Liverpool’s form has gone down the drain as 4 defeats and 2 draws in the next 7 fixtures indicates the state of form Liverpool are in.

And with Stoke coming into Anfield with Daniel Sturridge still out of contention, this match might serve more misery to the reds all around the globe. However, with a win which is looking more unlikely now than ever, the Reds might get a berth in the upper half of the Premier League for the next week.

#4 Revenge might serve its course when Chelsea visit Sunderland

Although Sunderland manager Gus Poyet has urged his player to do the unthinkable against Chelsea this weekend, there are little chances of how the black cats can control this Chelsea side. As far as Chelsea are concerned coming into this match, 3 points will be the minimum they’ll be hoping for.

Last time when both of these sides met in the Premier League, Jose Mourinho’s unbeaten record at Stamford Bridge was shattered as the Black Cats made their way to survival in relegation zone. And as we all know Mourinho is the man to hold grudges, his team will hold nothing bar when they’ll face former blue in Gus Poyet in the opposition dug-out.

#5 Are Tottenham on the brink of another miserable performance?

Having another young manager at the helm with no big wins in the competition so far, Tottenham would be going into the match at Goodison Park hoping, that their fortunes might change against quality opposition. However, like we have seen in the past, an Everton side in big fixtures is the last team you would hope to get against you team.

Everton, as we all know them perches their performance for the big games and with both Arsenal and Liverpool struggling and a Champions League berth for the taking, the blue half of Merseyside might give Tottenham another day to forget against a quality opposition at White Hart Lane.
