Commonwealth Games Flashback: Indian archery medal winners in 2010

With just one month left for the start of the 2014 Commonwealth Games, we continue our flashback series on the biggest winners from the past editions.The Indian archery team put up a terrific performance in Delhi as they bagged medals in various events. The hosts excelled in both the individual as well as the team events. Let us relive some of them.

#6 Ritul Chatterjee,Jignas Chittibomma&Chinna Raju Srither

The Indian men’s compound team reached the finals after a nail biting finish against South Africa in the semifinals where they prevailed 226-224.

They took on the Englishmen in the finals. The home crowd cheered them on as the match swung one way and another. It was a perfect end to the finale, but the English romped home in the end by 231-229.

India had to be content with silver.

#5 Bheigyabati Chanu,Jhano Hansdah&Gagandeep Kaur

The women’s compound team stumbled in the semifinals against a strong Canadian side and lost the match 224-217.

They took on Malaysia for a bronze medal. The team was upto the mark in the closing rounds of the match and won 223-219.

#4 Rahul Banerjee,Tarundeep Rai&Jayanta Talukdar

It was time for the men’s recurve team to take to the field after a disappointing loss in the semifinals to Australia. But the Indians bounced back in the 3rd place playoff against England as they won 221-218 to claim bronze.

#3 Deepika Kumari,Dola Banerjee&Bombayala Devi Laishram

Deepika Kumari and Dola Banerjee joined forces with Bombayala Devi Laishram to win against the English team of Naomi Folkard, Amy Oliver and Alison Williamson in a tightly contested final by 207-206.

The fans were on the edge of their seats during the final rounds. It was India who managed to win gold much to their delight.

#2 Rahul Banerjee

Rahul Banerjee cruised to the quarter finals without much trouble. In the semifinals,he had to contend with Australian Matt Masonwells. The Indian prevailed in a tight match 6-5. The No. 1 seeded Indian took on Canadian Jason Lyon in the final. The semifinal outing definitely helped him as he overcame nerves and won 6-5 to take home the gold.

Jayanta Talukdar’s performance in the bronze medal match delighted the home fans as he beat Australian Matthew Gray 6-4 making it 2 out of 3 for India!

#1 Deepika Kumari

Deepika Kumari won gold in the Women’s recurve individual event. She lived up to her No. 1 ranking when she beat Alison Williamson 6-0 in the final. India’s Dola Banerjee added more joy to the nation as she won bronze in the same event when she outclassed Malaysian Anbarassi Subramaniam 6-2.
