Highest wicket takers in IPL history

Srihari

With the IPL entering its seventh year, several bowlers have made their mark on the tournament. Let us take a look at the ones that have made the most impact: the highestwicket-takers in IPL history.

#10 Albie Morkel

With 76 wickets in his 78 matches for the Chennai Super Kings, 10th place goes to Albie Morkel. His wickets have come at a strike rate of 20; he will surely to look improve upon that aspect as he is set to play for Royal Challengers Bangalore this time around.

#9 Harbhajan Singh

One of the few players to have played with the same franchise throughout IPLs short history, Harbhajan Singh is in ninth place. With 78 wickets at an economy rate of under 7, he has been one of Mumbais go-to bowlers.

#8 Dale Steyn

In eighth place is the fiery South African fast bowler Dale Steyn with 78 wickets in his 69 matches for Deccan Chargers, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad. With an economy rate of just over 6 and a strike-rate a tad over 20, Steyn has been one of the best pace bowlers in the IPL.

#7 Dwayne Bravo

Whilst he is known to many as an explosive finisher, Dwayne Bravo also picks up his fair share of wickets. Although he is slightly expensive, his 79 wickets at a strike rate of 17.3 demonstrate his knack of picking crucial wickets at regular intervals of time. Although he isn’t the quickest bowler on this list, his variations have been been found difficult to pick.

#6 Piyush Chawla

Having represented Kings XI Punjab in all the 6 editions of the IPL, Piyush Chawla has played the most number of matches as compared to any bowler on this list. And with 84 wickets to his name, he has been more than handful with the ball in his hand. The Indian leg-spinner holds the dubious record of having been hit for the most number of sixes in the history of IPL, one which he will be keen to relinquish this time around.

#5 Vinay Kumar

One of the early success stories of the IPL, Vinay Kumar’s record of 84 wickets is enough to guarantee him fifth spot. Although he is touch expensive towards the end of the innings, he has the courage to fight it out, and, when he gets it right, he is quite adept with his arsenal of slower balls, bouncers and yorkers.

#4 Pragyan Ojha

The only left-arm spinner in this list, Pragyan Ojha’s record of 85 wickets in 79 matches is good enough to seal the fourth spot.

#3 RP Singh

RP Singh started his IPL career on the back of a successful T20 World Cup in 2007 and was one of the leading bowlers in the league until a couple of years ago. Since then, he has moved around quite a bit and is the only player on this list to have played for more than three teams.

#2 Amit Mishra

Fresh from a highly successful T20 World Cup, Amit Mishra will be looking to continue his wonderful IPL performances with Sunrisers Hyderabad. His 95 wickets have come at an economy of less than 7 and is the leading spinner in the history of IPL.

#1 Lasith Malinga

2014 T20 World Cup winning Sri Lankan captain Lasith Malinga tops the wickets chart with 103 wickets in just 73 matches. He is not only the leading wicket-taker in the league but also the only bowler in IPL to have crossed a century of wickets. He has the best strike-rate and is second only to Dale Steyn when it comes to economy rate.
