Tennis has seen some great matches over the years. However, there have been instances where things have got out of control leading to ugly scenes on the court. Here’s a look at five ugly altercations between players on the court.

#5 Serena Williams Vs Jelena Jankovic Charleston 2013

Serena Williams was facing Jelena Jankovic in the 2011 WTA Championships. It was Jankovic’s serve, but the American wasn’t ready. That led to a verbal fight between the duo and Serena spoke about the incident after she won the match 3-6, 6-0, 6-2.

#4 Jimmy Connors Vs John McEnroe, Chicago 1982

John Mcenroe was involved in an argument with Jimmy Connors at Chicago in 1982. Connors was annoyed that he went to the other side of the net and put forth his point to McEnroe and then pointed fingers at him, which led to the officials intervening to stop the argument.

#3 Andy Murray Vs Juan Martin Del Potro 2008, Rome Masters

Del Potro was leading by a set to love and the second set was tied at 4-4. Murray was 40-15 and eventually, went on to break Del Potro’s serve. However, the match will be remembered for what happened at the end of that point as The duo were involved in a heated argument after Del Potro had commented about Murray’s mother Judy. Murray progressed to the next round after Del Potro retired hurt in the third set.

#2 Lenader Paes/Mahesh Bhupathi Vs Juan Monaco/ Feliciano Lopez, Ausralian Open, 2011, Second Round

The Indian duo had won the first set and were well on their way to win the second set and with that the match when there was a shot that was hit straight towards Paes. After the match was won, Bhupathi was also involved in an argument with Monaco. The Indian Express won the match eventually 6-4,7-6 to progress through to the next round.

#1 Pete Sampras/Roger Federer Vs Andre Agassi/ Rafael Nadal, Charity match Indian Wells, 2010

Sampras and Federer were up against Agassi and Nadal in a charity match at Indian Wells in 2010. With the first set tied at 4-4, the retired legends got into a real altercation when Sampras started to imitate Agassi. In response, the eight-time Grand Slam champion opened out his pant pockets to indicate that he was out of money, but within moments took a jibe at Sampras saying he had a dollar. Federer then urged Rafa to do something. Sampras then fired a serve straight at Agassi, to show what he thought.

Sampras and Federer went on to win the set and the match 8-6.
