With Payback just round the corner, this installment of WWE RAW sure gave its predecessors a run for their money. Armed wIth some exciting returns and debuts on the card, the show indeed looked promising. From the word go till the surprisingly exciting main event, the WWE’s weekly episodic show kept the fans on the edge of their seats. Lots of questions were left to be answered from last week. How would Reigns and Orton fare under Kane’s authority? What is in store for recently crowned King Barrett? Who is going to accept John Cena’s U.S title invitational and lots more. With so many questions to be answered, let us take a look at 5 moments that stole the show tonight on RAW

#1 New Day defeats Orton and Reigns

Ever since winning their tag team titles at Extreme rules, New Day seem to be on a high. One look at them and you will invariably find positivity galore. This week, they picked on the top dogs as the trio of Kingston, Big E and Xavier Woods chose to interrupt Number one contenders Roman Reigns and Randy Orton. ( Note: Big E trash talking was indeed fun to watch).

So, when you have a 3 on 2 situation in the ring, you know what’s coming, a ‘handicap match’. The trio squared off against Orton and reigns and the match was indeed a solid bout to start proceedings on the show. Reigns and Orton were caught in a mixup towards the far end of the match resulting in the tag teams champions picking up an impressive victory much to everyone’s surprise.

You can shout ‘new day sucks’ all you want, but there ain’t no stopping them.

#2 Bret the Hitman Hart is back

You don’t simply have a RAW in Montreal, Canada without the ‘best there was, the best there is and the best superstar there ever will be’.

Cena’s U.S title challenge was interrupted by hometown hero Bret Hart, who made the Montreal crowd go bananas since the time his iconic music hit the arena. He walked down the ramp to introduce the challenger before being interrupted by Heath Slater. Slater complained of having to face the brunt of cheap shots night after night before the Hitman delivered one of his own to the former Nexus member.

A small segment indeed, but the crowd sure got their money’s worth.

#3 Sami Zayn makes his WWE debut

John Cena continued his ‘equal opportunity for all’ U.S title challenge and the fans were eager to see who walks out of the curtain. Down walked Bret Hart to a rousing reception. Apparently, he was not taking the title shot and had come there to introduce a certain superstar who would give Cena a run for his money. Down walked NXT prodigy and Montreal boy Sam Zayn to a huge roar as he took up the John Cena invitational challenge.

The match was indeed a phenomenal show as both superstars kept their offence top notch. Zayn with his highflying maneuver kept Cena on the defense as the match took a wild turn. Cena hit the stunner and won the bout with an AA, but Zayn was the star of the night by a long distance. The participants shook hands as Zayn received a lot of praise from fans and legends alike.

#4 Unstoppable Ambrose

A match between former SHIELD members Rollins and Ambrose lit up an otheriwise mediocre edition of WWE Smackdown. Both superstars gave it their all as the crowd could not contain their excitement at what was presented before them. The WWE saw this as an opportunity to light up RAW as well and boy did that work.

Kane, who seems to be very ‘fair’ in his approach as GM, booked a match between WWE World heavyweight champion Seth Rollins and former nemesis Dean Ambrose. That was not all, the catch for the champion was that if his opponent was to pick up the win, then the match at Payback would become a fatal 4 way match up.

Just when you thought that both superstars exhausted all their arsenal on Smackdown, it looked like they saved the best of it for RAW. In what was a hard hitting and energetic bout, Ambrose and Rollins went on an offensive rampage delivering shot after shot and kick after kick to enthrall the crowd. Eventually, despite J&J’s interference, the lunatic fringe defied the odds and rolled up his opponent to seal a spot at Payback for the coveted championship.

#5 Authority gets cleaned out

RAW endings always look promising and this week was no different. Kane set up a match between Orton and Reigns as the main event. The Authority played out as the ring announcer, timekeeper, enforcer & commentator for ensure that the contest was a fair one.

Both superstars were up to their usual best trading shots after shots, but soon they had to back each other up as the Authority broke all protocols and targeted the number one contenders. Just when you thought that the Authority will be the ones standing tall, out came Ambrose to steal the show as he single handedly dismantled the opposition aiding his fellow competitors. And, as the babyfaces stood tall, Ambrose delivered the dirty deeds to orton before the latter hit Reigns with the RKO to clean the ring.

Will this be the sign of things to come at Payback?
