Top 5 things wrong with the WWE

I believe the WWE has definitely improved over the past 3 years, right after the PG era kicked off. CM Punk and Daniel Bryan have paved the way for many other independent wrestlers who didn’t really fit the profile the WWE were looking for earlier. John Cena is no longer perenially invincible. They’ve found a champion who looks intimidating even after being on air only once or twice a month. But, it still does not hide the fact that there are still many things that WWE could improve upon. Here are 5 of those aspects:

#5 The Commentary

Sure, JBL is funny and a great addition to the commentary team. He is a great heel commentator in the making but he still isn’t there yet.

Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler are busy churning out jokes and laughing at those jokes themselves than call the matches taking place in front of them. They do their job just fine when they call the most hyped matches but still tend to get a bit off-track in between. JBL is good but his fellow announcers seem to be contagious as Layfield too, sometimes, joins in on the ‘fun’.

Even Jim Ross called out this ridiculous habit of theirs.

#4 Creative has nothing for you

Now here comes the writing. One of the major setbacks that WWE has had is in its writing. If CM Punk was ever to comment on his departure, I bet it will more or less have to do with the kind of writing he had to endure. I mean, they made him compete in a fatal four way to determine the Undertaker’s Wrestlemania opponent. That kind of spoiled the excitement of the question surrounding Taker’s return. That was just plain stupid and Punk says so himself in one of his interviews.

Writinng has been the major factor in the bad handling of superstars like Alberto Del Rio, Sheamus and many others. Look at Sheamus, he is the US Champion, and yet, he’s not significant.

#3 Too much on the plate

If we actually look at the WWE roster, it isn’t that crowded but it is quite a job to give each and every one of them a unique gimmick and more or less the management or Creative fails at that job. Look at the divas division. While some have been phenomenally successful, many have just been relegated to promoting their products or are not pushed well enough.

A gimmick like Ryback has been repackaged almost three times but someone like an Adam Rose or a Fandango haven’t got that kind of treatment.

#2 The Brand extension

In a few years, Smackdown can reach a milestone of 1000 episodes? Will it really? Ever since Edge retired, it hasn’t been the same. And ever since the content of Raw and Smackdown was merged, it hasn’t recovered since.

There have been sparks but whoever gets popular moves to Raw and then Smackdown is left with no one to call its own. The last major development that happened on Smackdown was the angle between AJ Lee and Daniel Bryan and the rest is history.

#1 The Divas Division

Sure, they’re getting more spotlight than they did some time ago. The arrival of Total Divas has really put them on air, even if it does not amount to much time.

But what makes the WWE divas different from any other women in entertainment is their wrestling skill. At this moment, the industry can’t boast of having them in the majority. Apart from Natalya, AJ and Paige, not many on the main roster come to mind as being technically sound. Sure, Naomi is talented and Alicia Fox is underrated but the major spotlight that this division is getting is through the ridiculous Bellas feud. It hasn’t worked well at all. It’s as if both of them are competing to see who’s the worst actor.

All the while this has been going on, AJ and Paige’s feud has been relegated to the background such that there have been a lot of blink and miss moments.
