In fact, they were so big that they met in close to 60 finals in their career but the 1978 Wimbledon final was an epic thriller. #2 Steffi Graf Vs Jana Novotna (1993)

Stefanie Maria "Steffi" Graf, the former world number 1 was a favourite for more reasons than one. Even today, Serena Williams aims to emulate Graf’s achievement and tries to break her record of winning 22 Grand Slam titles.

However much impregnable that feat sounds, we will have to wait and see where that goes.

Novotna dropped her first set but came back strongly in the second when she dropped just a single game in the second set. Novotna was close to victory as she was one point away from taking a 5-1 lead when Graf struck back to win the match.

The title was snatched away from Jana’s Novotna’s hands as she stood there and cried her heart out after the loss.

#3 Venus Williams Vs Lindsay Davenport (2005)

This was one of the longest final in the history of Wimbledon and one of the most incredible too. This was a power vs. power struggle for both the players as the crowd cheered and screamed in excitement. Davenport served at match point but shockingly Venus came back from there and hit some absolutely brilliant forehands to bring the final set to a nerve-wrecking tiebreaker. This somehow added another feather in Williams’ cap however we never saw Davenport again in any Grand Slam final.
