Basketball is often reckoned to be a game for the 'biggies', but there have been small guys, relatively speaking, who have played the game equally well. Here are the nine shortest point guards to have ever played in the NBA history.

Since basketball revised its traditions regarding physical stats, many talented but shortest point guards have emerged. Monte Towe is a point guard who played for the Denver Nuggets in the 1970s.

Towe, along with team-mate David Thompson, is credited with inventing the alley-oop in basketball.

Towe, just 5 feet 7 inches tall,would throw the ball to Thompson while he was in the air and Thompson would gently drop the ball in the basket. This was a clever move in those times as dunking was still considered illegal.

#8 Wataru Misaka

Although Wataru Misaka played only three games for the New York Knicks in the 1947-48 season, he is remembered to date as the first player of Japanese and non-Caucasian origin to play in the NBA.

Misaka, who was only 5 feet 7 inches tall, also declined an invitation from Harlem Globetrotters to pursue a degree in Engineering.

#7 Herman Klotz

Louis Herman 'Red' Klotz, who played point guard for the Baltimore Bullets in the 1940s and 50s,is famous as the oldest living NBA champion.

At 5 feet 7 inches, he is also the shortest player to play on a championship team.

Klotz is currently the owner of the New York Nationals, the current traveling opponents of the Harlem Globetrotters.

Keith Jenningsspent three seasons in the NBA with the Golden State Warriors playing in 164 games and averaging 6.6 points and 3.7 assists per game.

Jennings, who was 5 feet 7 inches tall, played abroad later on with clubs such as Real Madrid, Fenerbache and Strasbourg.

Greg Grant was a draft pick for the Phoenix Suns in 1989.

Grant, who was 5 feet 7 inches tall, also played for Denver Nuggets, Charlotte Hornets, Philadelphia 76ers and the New York Knicks among other teams.

In 2009, Grant released his autobiography, 94 Feet and Rising: The Journey of Greg Grant to the NBA and Beyond.

#4 Anthony Jerome Webb

Anthony Jerome Webb was 5 feet 6 inch point guard who played most of his career for the Atlanta Hawks.

Webb's claim to fame is winning the 1986 All-Star slam dunk contest beating the likes of Michael Jordan and Dominique Wilkins.

He is currently the President of Basketball Operations for the Texas Legends, the D-League team for the Dallas Mavericks in Frisco, Texas.

Mel Hirsch, who was 5 feet 6 inches tall, played for the Boston Celtics for 13 games in the 1946-47 season.

Hersch has scored19 points and was credited with 10 assists over the course of his career.

He also servedin the US Army Air Corps in the 1940s. Hirsch died at the age of 47 from Leukemia.

Earl Boykins was a point guard who played for a number of NBA teams on short-term contracts but spent most of his time with the Denver Nuggets.

Despite being only 5 feet 5 inches tall,Boykins has scored more than 5,000 points during his NBA career, averaging 8.9 per game.

The 37-year old last played in the NBA for the Houston Rockets on a10-day contract.

Tyrone Bogues, nicknamed 'Muggsy', is the shortest player ever to have played in the NBA.

Bogues, who was just 5 feet 3 inches tall, played as a point guard for the Charlotte Hornets, the Washington Bullets, the Golden State Warriors, and the Toronto Raptors during his 14-season career in the NBA.

Bogues was named the Charlotte Hornets' Ambassador in March 2014.
