Top F1 Books

As the World Cup comes to a close fans will turn their attention to other sports, one of them being Formula 1. It is no secret that Formula 1 looks brilliant on screen but there have been some good books published on the sport too. Some may think that books on F1 are boring due to the action not being live but I can assure you there have been some books published on the sport over the years that will make you want to read them time and again. The famous poet Oscar Wilde once said “If one cannot enjoy reading a book over and over again, there is no use in reading it at all.” With that brilliant quote in mind let’s look at some top F1 books.

#5 Ferrari Formula 1

One cannot think of Formula 1 without thinking of one of its iconic teams – Ferrari. The Italian team is one of the most successful sides in Formula 1 and this book details the team’s journey through the years.

The book includes pictures of the team’s famous drivers Nikki Lauda, Michael Schumacher and Kimi Raikkonen. The books amazing cover along with a great foreword by Nikki Lauda makes it a compelling read.

#4 Memories Of Ayrton

Christopher Hilton has published many books on the legendary Ayrton Senna, but this one is the greatest of them all. The book isn’t about his fascinating racing career, but his personal life along with quotes from other drivers about him which makes it all the more interesting.

The photos in the book show Senna enjoying life at home and gives you the chance to look at the other side of the Brazilian. The book’s cover featuring a photo of Senna is amazing too and is guaranteed to grab your attention.

The book isn’t in print anymore so copies of it are extremely hard to find, but don’t hesitate to buy one if you spot it.

#3 Grand Prix: Fascination Formula 1

A must read for die hard Formula 1 fans as well as fans who are new to the sport. Fascination Formula 1 contains everything you need to know about the sport from A to Z and fantastically shows you the evolution of the sport through the decades.

The book is available for a ridiculous Rs. 11,601 on Amazon, but I’m sure there are some foreign websites who will sell you a copy for much less than that. The book is guaranteed to make the dull monsoon bright.

#2 50 Years Of Formula 1 Photography

Rainer W Schlegelmilch came up with another gem in the form of 50 Years Of Formula 1 Photography. I had a chance to read the book last year and was completely blown away by some of the images. Legendary drivers like Michael Schumacher, Jackie Stewart and of course the immortal Ayrton Senna feature heavily throughout the book making it even more loveable.

50 Years is available on Amazon India for a price of Rs.2,822 which seems pricey but is worth spending on.

#1 Grand Prix de Monaco

There have been scores of books published by authors on Formula 1’s most iconic race but Grand Prix de Monaco by Rainer W Schlegelmilch & Hartmut Lehbrink wins the prize.

When I first got it, I was put off by 400 pages in front of me, but when I started reading it I didn’t want it to end. The book takes you through the races which occurred from 1929 until 1998 and is crammed with pictures.

Unfortunately, it isn’t available on Flipkart or Amazon India but if you come across it I urge you to buy it without hesitation.
