10 Biggest rumours of Wrestlemania 31

Some argue that this year’s WrestleMania is shaping up to be one of the most disappointing ever, but perhaps that has more to do with just how great last year’s effort was rather than the card itself. The end of The Undertaker’s Streak and Daniel Bryan finally getting his hands on the WWE World Heavyweight Championship are moments which are hard to top, but if these rumours are to be believed, don’t be so quick to write off this year’s WrestleMania. As with pretty much all the reports to hail from the dirt sheets, it’s best to take all of these rumours with a pinch of salt. However, some make more sense than others, whether it’s the big plans for the mid-card titles or who will end up holding the world title by night’s end.Either way, the build-up to this year’s WrestleMania really hasn’t been that exciting, something not helped by the fact that three of the superstars from the show’s main feuds – Brock Lesnar, Sting, and The Undertaker – have been mostly or entirely absent from TV.However, these rumours might just help you change your mind about what’s to come on the grandest stage of them all next Sunday. Be warned though that there could be what are considered major spoilers here. They’re all worth getting excited about either way.

#1 Daniel Bryan and John Cena will win big

Despite the fact that there are those who view Daniel Bryan’s inclusion in the ladder match for the Intercontinental title as a demotion of sorts for the man who wrestled two matches last year to become WWE World Heavyweight Champion, there may be a method behind the WWE’s apparent madness. It’s been rumoured that both he and John Cena will win their respective mid-card titles at WrestleMania 31 in a bid to increase their importance.

This will only work if the WWE actually creates significant storylines which will result in matches for either the Intercontinental or United States Championship headlining Raw, SmackDown, and even PPVs. Bryan and Cena is a step in the right direction regardless, and Triple H is said to be the one pushing Vince McMahon to make both of the currently uninteresting titles feel as important and relevant as they did quite a few years ago.

#2 Sting vs. Triple H will be the Main Event

It’s been rumoured that right now, Vince McMahon still hasn’t decided how the card of WrestleMania 31 will come together. It’s natural to think that the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns should go on last, but with every chance that the crowd will turn on the Samoan Superstar and start rooting for The Beast, Vince might want to avoid ending the night with tens of thousands of booing fans.

This has led to a lot of rumours and speculation over what the main event will end up being. CM Punk and Chris Jericho were pushed down the card to make way for the big event match between The Rock and John Cena a couple of years ago, and it’s being widely reported that Triple H and Sting’s historic face-off will be what ends the night this year.

Whether or not this is true likely won’t be confirmed until next Sunday, but it makes a lot of sense.

#3 Brock Lesnar\'s turn as Baby-Face

WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar appeared on ESPN today and announced that he has signed a multi-year deal with WWE after Vince McMahon made him an offer he couldn’t refuse at RAW in Los Angeles.

Lesnar mentioned how he has been training for MMA but something was missing mentally for him, which was one of the factors that led to him going with WWE. Lesnar reportedly has been doing two months of MMA training that was described as very serious. Lesnar had been training up until just a few days ago preparing for a return to the Octagon.

It was also noted by Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter today that friends close to Lesnar and his wife Sable did not want him to return to professional fighting.

Brock staying with WWE for a few more years obviously opens the door for several high-profile feuds and the expected big babyface turn. Some are expecting Sunday’s WrestleMania 31 event to see Lesnar as a super babyface against Reigns as a super heel, due in part to the crowd.

A Lesnar babyface turn has reportedly been decided on within WWE since the first of the year.

#4 Sting Getting an elaborate entrance

Regardless of whether or not you’re a fan of Sting from his WCW days, there’s no denying that his arrival in the WWE is a significant moment in history of sports entertainment. It’s not really surprising then that he’ll be getting a huge entrance for his first match both in the WWE and at WrestleMania, and rumour has it that a local casting agency in San Francisco is looking for a number of extras to play crows while Sting makes his way to the ring.

It’s not clear what this will consist of, and there are those who believe that this could, in fact, be for Bray Wyatt instead. However, seeing as the WWE has so far portrayed Sting as an almost supernatural character – and the cawing of a crow is used to signal his arrival – it’s a pretty safe bet to assume who this is for.

There are those who would prefer longer matches over lengthy entrances, but you can’t blame WWE for making a big deal out of this.

#5 And so is Rusev

Whether or not Rusev will retain the United States Championship at WrestleMania 31 remains to be seen, but many fans are hoping he will in order to avoid seeing his impressive undefeated streak predictably come to an end at the hands of John Cena (whose victory over Bray Wyatt last year did the Eater of Worlds no favours). Regardless, Rusev is expected to also receive an elaborate entrance which might just end up rivalling that of Sting’s.

The same extras being sought after to play crows will also dress up as Russian soldiers, but the interesting thing about this rumour is that their appearance could come about when Lana makes her surprise return.

She’s been off TV since agreeing to the match with Cena on Rusev’s behalf – and because she’s shooting a WWE Studios movie – so if the rumours are correct, Lana returning with Russian soldiers to back Rusev up would be very cool.

#6 The Undertakers big return

The match between Bray Wyatt and The Undertaker should feel like a bigger deal that it currently does. So far, it’s been up to Wyatt to carry the entire feud with promos which are great but ultimately not that different from what the WWE Universe has been hearing from him for the past year or two now.

On The Undertaker’s side, only a pre-recorded title card has served as his response, but why is the Deadman being kept off television?

According to a number of reports, it’s down to Vince McMahon wanting to up the number of WWE Network subscribers ahead of WrestleMania 31. The feeling within the WWE is that revealing The Undertaker now would mean fans were no longer curious to see what he looks like following last year’s match with Brock Lesnar, and this does make a lot of sense from a business perspective.

From a storytelling one though, it’s not so great.

#7 WrestleMania 32s Main Event has been set

There were rumblings late last year of The Rock playing some sort of role at WrestleMania 31, but after his brief Royal Rumble appearance and where things currently stand, it’s clear that won’t be happening.

While there has been talk of him possibly showing up to help Roman Reigns celebrate if he emerges victorious, rumours right now are focused solely on what the People’s Champion turned box office king will be doing at next year’s event.

A match for The Rock with Triple H seemed like a possibility at one point, but it’s been reported that the reason Brock Lesnar mentioned his victory over him at 2002’s SummerSlam in that recent promo is to lay the groundwork for the two having a rematch at WrestleMania 32.

Adding some weight to this one is the fact that The Rock has since indicated he would be interested in making it happen while promoting Fast & Furious 7.

#8 Sheamus returns as a Heel

Despite the fact that he’s spent the last few years in the mid-card, the WWE has been hyping up Sheamus’ return for weeks now, though they’ve never revealed when exactly the Celtic Warrior will be back. Well, rumours point to him being a surprise entrant in the Intercontinental Ladder Match at WrestleMania, with the hope being that he’s heavily cheered throughout the match before acting more and more heel like and winning the belt.

However, to get his hands on the title, Sheamus will cost Daniel Bryan the match! This is sure to upset the fans of the leader of the Yes Movement who are already upset that he’s competing at this level after headlining WrestleMania just one year ago.

This will then set up a lengthy feud with a heel Sheamus and a babyface Bryan for the Intercontinental Title, something which will undoubtedly create more excitement around the championship.

#9 Seth Rollins attempts to cash in

This is a rumour which has been circulating for some time now, and Seth not cashing in would be a genuine surprise at this point. Whether it’s on a beaten down Brock Lesnar who has taken everything Roman Reign has got and still won or on Reigns himself, Seth finishing the night as WWE World Heavyweight Champion would be what’s best for business, and his match with Randy Orton really shouldn’t impact the chances of this happening.

Rollins has held the Money in the Bank briefcase for quite some time now, and has only attempted to cash in a handful of times (something which has a lot to do with Lesnar not being around all that often to be fair).

Having Reigns beat Lesnar only to have the title stolen by the company’s top heel could be exactly what is needed to finally get fans rooting for him, but a Rollins title run is ultimately just a lot more exciting than both Reigns or Lesnar.

#10 Brock Lesnar will retain the WWE World Heavyweight Championship

Roman Reigns is still getting a mixed reaction, so there’s a very strong chance that in front of a huge international WrestleMania crowd, he will get the same treatment he received at the end of this year’s Royal Rumble.

Even after months of trying to make him look strong in repetitive handicap matches, Roman still doesn’t have the crowd behind him and does seem anywhere near ready to convincingly hold the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

The solution? Well, the latest rumour to come out of the WWE is that Brock will retain the title. This all goes back to Triple H pushing for a renewed focus on the mid-card championships as it would mean they could headline shows while Brock continues to make sporadic appearances.

Having Lesnar dominate Reigns and emerge victorious would be far less predictable and could still help Roman look good if he puts in a strong performance.

And the Last Thing you’d want is The Rock coming out and helping out his baby brother capture the World Heavyweight Championship.

Well, all these are just rumours. We’ll have to wait for the Mania to unfold and surprise us. Cheers!
