10 controversial moments in pro wrestling that were, thankfully, cancelled

There are no arguments about whether WWE is scripted or not -- the good old days of blurring the line between kayfabe and reality are nowhere to be seen due to micro management and some PG humour. Also read: 10 WWE Sexiest Moments that parents wouldn't want their children to seeIrrespective of the PG aspect, pro wrestling has always had some ridiculous angles, and will continue to do so. Some are very popular with the fans, while others get buried for one or more reasons, and we are going to take a look into the latter in this piece. Over the years, there have been many utterly ludicrous ideas that were planned by the company, but were dropped by the WWE. Here is a look at those cringe-worthy angles that were dropped by the company for good.

#10 Batista\'s rape angle

Batista and Melina had a real-life fling back in 2006, and the WWE was more than eager to exploit this - to the extent that they suggested a rape angle for the Animal.

Melina was seen doing favours for Batista before his tag team match against MNM in an attempt to make Batista lose. However, Batista went on to defeat MNM, alongside Rey Mysterio, to become the tag team champions.

After the defeat, Melina planned to come out and accuse Batista of raping her, and the former World Heavyweight Champion would then acknowledge the same in a press conference. The angle, however, was cut short after Batista suffered an injury in a house show.

#9 CM Punk vs Triple H at WrestleMania XXX

This plan turned controversial mainly because of Punk’s exit. He had troubles with the Staph Infection and didn’t like the way his character was going. Punk decided to walk out of the company after Royal Rumble 2014, but WWE had some pretty interesting plans for him.

Firstly, Punk was rumoured to face Kane at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view, which would then act as a build-up to his showdown with Triple H in WrestleMania.

Punk didn’t want to put Hunter over at Mania and was getting tired of how the company treated him. Triple H was immediately put into an angle with Daniel Bryan later, which forced Bryan to pull off double duty at Mania.

#8 Stephanie McMahon\'s own Kiss My Ass club

Vince McMahon’s 'Kiss My Ass' club was juvenile and silly but the WWE creative team had an even worse plan when they tried to introduce Stephanie McMahon's ‘Kiss My Ass’ club.

The first victim of the club was supposed to be Eric Bischoff when Bischoff’s team of Rosey and Jamal faced Stephanie’s team of Chuck and Billy with the stipulation in place. If Bischoff was to lose, he would have had to join the club and if Stephanie was to lose, she would have had to perform a lesbian act.

Bischoff wasn’t happy with the idea and refused to let his team lose. Chris Jericho was then decided to be the first member of the club but Stephanie shot down the angle since she didn’t feel comfortable with the whole thing either.

#7 Muhammad Hassan becoming the youngest World Heavyweight Champion

WWE cashed in on the 9/11 terrorist attacks by creating a character called Muhammad Hassan. There were several Middle-Eastern Americans at that time who were growing tired of how the country was treating them.

The fans loved to hate Hassan and all of a sudden, he was having feuds with the likes of Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels and Undertaker. The London bombings on July 7, 2005, however, proved to be the nail in Hassan’s coffin as everyone thought that WWE was taking things a bit too far with the character.

He was soon written off television and was never seen again. However, before writing him off, WWE had big plans with him and even wanted him to be the youngest World Heavyweight Champion in history.

#6 A homosexual Maryse

2008 saw the rise of Maryse in the Divas division. She was a mainstay in the SmackDown brand and wowed the crowd with her hotness in various eye candy matches. Her aggressive attitude made Maryse an instant heel, but the actual idea was to project Maryse as a lesbian.

This gimmick even included her kissing and stalking her opponents while doing some over-the-top maneuvers in the ring.

WWE cancelled the angle claiming that it was too graphic for the PG audience, but Maryse never stopped using her seducing pins. Even without the gimmick, Maryse went on to become the Divas champion on multiple occasions.

#5 Chyna as WWE Champion

Ever imagined what it would be like if Chyna was a WWE Champion before Triple H? That was the idea way back in 1999. After Chyna was crowned the first ever Woman Intercontinental Champion, Vince wanted to take things a step further.

Chyna even got a No. 1 contender spot before SummerSlam 1999 and was supposed to face Steve Austin in the main event of the pay-per-view.

However, things were soon rolled back due to the argument that Chyna lacked the skills to be a champion. There were other problems too, one of it being an unsettled locker room with a woman carrying the coveted title.

#4 Edge being deaf-mute

The R-rated superstar jumped ship to the WWE early in his career after a horrible run with WCW. He wanted to make it big in Vince McMahon’s company but the then lead writer Vince Russo had other plans for the superstar.

Russo wanted Edge to play a deaf-mute character since he didn’t think that Edge could talk well. But the idea was sure to bury him, so Edge refused it.

He later transformed himself into the Edge character which was actually the name of a radio station he liked. The other possible names for him included Rage and Riot.

#3 Vince McMahon incest angle

Another angle that was put forward in the WWE was that of Vince McMahon becoming the father of Stephanie McMahon’s child.

He wanted to run an incest angle within the family but Stephanie soon shot down the idea as she wasn’t happy with it. Vince, however, had an alternative where Shane McMahon would be revealed as the father instead of Vince.

Stephanie shot down that as well and didn’t want anything to do with the incest ideas. If either of those angles had unfolded, it would’ve attracted a lot of mainstream controversy, which might’ve been Vince’s plan in the first place.

#2 Stacy Kiebler\'s baby

youtube-cover

Stacy Kiebler was known for her steamy and non-PG promos in the Attitude Era, but her WCW run saw an angle that is better forgotten. In 2000, she announced that she was pregnant and made it clear that it wasn’t the child of David Flair, who was her boyfriend back then.

The other culprit in the scene was Buff Bagwell, which resulted in a 'DNA first blood' match between Flair and Bagwell. Flair would attempt to get the blood of Bagwell and conduct a DNA test to know who the real father was.

If this wasn’t ridiculous enough, it was further planned to reveal Ric Flair as the real father and have a father-son feud. Thankfully, that didn’t see the light of day!

#1 Vince McMahon\'s death

youtube-cover

This, ladies and gentleman, would’ve been one of the most ridiculous angles in professional wrestling if WWE had let it unfold. On the June 11, 2007 episode of Monday Night Raw, Vince McMahon’s limo exploded and the chairman of WWE was presumed dead.

The idea was to run a three-hour memorial show for Vince next week and reveal Mr. Kennedy as the man behind the explosion, which in turn would’ve given him a big push.

However, before WWE could make it happen, the real life death of Chris Benoit shocked the wrestling world. So instead of having a Vince McMahon memorial show, Vince was standing between the ropes, acknowledging Benoit’s death.

The angle was scrapped immediately and Vince later covered it up by saying he was just curious to know people’s reaction about his death.
