Despite what he has done for the business, Hogan was outcast by the WWE and it has ended up being a major topic of debate among the WWE fans.While the controversies about Hogan are taking place on one side, there are some facts about the Hulkster that most of the fans probably don’t know. And this list is going to take a look at those things. So buckle up the seat belts and be ready to be swept away by these lesser known Hulk Hogan facts.

#10 The Shocking divorce

What would it feel like if you come to know about your divorce from a reporter? Shocking right? Hogan went through such a situation back in 2007. His wife Linda Hogan filed for a divorce in the year without Hogan’s knowledge and when a St. Petersburg reporter asked him to comment about the same, Hogan was shocked.

“I’m kind of shocked. You caught me off-guard. My wife has been in California for about three weeks. … Holy smokes. Wow, you just knocked the bottom out of me. … I just pulled over to the side of the road for five minutes to find out what was going on here,” Hogan said.

The divorce eventually went through and Linda went on to date a 19-year old classmate of her kids. As far as Hogan was concerned, the divorce shook him up pretty bad and made him do certain things that you will see later in the list.

#9 He uses his red underwear to avoid air disasters

Everyone out there has some superstitions and Hulk Hogan is no different. For him, his underwear is his lucky charm. He always wears his lucky red underwear while flying as he considers it as a protection against the air disasters that could be waiting for him in the sky. It might sound a bit ridiculous but trust me; he has a good reason to believe so.

He has been involved in two plane crashes and he survived both of them. And both times, he was wearing the same underwear. Can you blame him for thinking it is lucky? Well, the color might’ve changed a bit after all these years but that’s not the matter of discussion here is it?

#8 Hogan was all set to start his own Wrestling Company against Vince McMahon

In 2007, Hulk Hogan came out with a wild idea of starting a wrestling company. According to him, he was going to revolutionalise the wrestling business with his promotion and he raised almost $40 Million for the project. But he did not reach the target of the $80 Million and was forced to flush the plan down the drain.

If Hogan had started the company, it would have been a big landscape changer in the wrestling business but unfortunately it didn’t happen. Now that Hogan has a reason to go up against Vince, if he gets the right financial backing, we might end up seeing a new promotion in the business under Hogan.

#7 His childhood wrestling heroes

Everyone has a favorite wrestler and Hogan did too. He was a wrestling fan from a young age itself and it was Dusty Rhodes who caught his attention. Something about The American dream attracted Hogan and he was immediately hooked. However, the connection soon got changed when Hogan came across Superstar Billy Graham.

From the moment he saw Graham, Hogan wanted to look ‘inhuman’ like Graham and started working towards the same. With Graham being an inspiration to the Hulkster, it is not a big surprise that these two have similarities when it comes to the way they look. From a different point of view, it shows how good Dusty Rhodes was during his prime.

#6 Sex tape with wife of best man and double date with his son

It was Hulk Hogan’s sex tape that started the whirlwind of controversy that we are seeing now. And while the things that Hogan talked in the tape are subjected to debates right now, not many fans are bothered about the backstory of the actual tape.

Hogan appeared in the sex tape with Heather Clem, who was the wife of Bubba the Love Sponge Bubba; the best man of Hulk Hogan. And the best part about the tape came in the last part when Hogan revealed that he was going to meet his son who was dating a girl. This girl had a twin who wanted to have some fun (You know what I mean) with Hogan.

So basically Hogan was involved in a sex tape with the wife of his best man and at the same was planning to have a double date alongside his son. And for the record, the sex tape was planned by Bubba himself.

#5 Learning from the best and breaking his leg

Hulk Hogan started his wrestling training under Hiro Matsuda. During his first training session, Hogan was pushed to the limit. Matsuda had a rule of working out rookies till they were going to faint and he employed the same tactics with Hogan. The difference was: Hogan did not faint, he broke his leg. Hogan was not ready to give up and returned when he recovered.

Hogan later stopped working with Matsuda when he realized that Matsuda was an overbearing trainer. In case you wanted to know the superstars that Matsuda trained, here is the list: Keiji Mutoh, Paul Orndorff, Scott Hall, Lex Luger, Bob Orton Jr., Ron Simmons.

#4 Mr. Freeze in Batman and Robin

The guy who saved Hogan and George Clooney

Remember the disastrous Batman and Robin Movie? Don’t remember? Well, it’s quite natural because apart from cringes, there was nothing memorable about the flick. And surprisingly, the film’s director, Joel Schumacher considered Hulk Hogan for the role of Batman’s nemesis, Mr. Freeze.

Hogan was the third choice for the role after Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone. Fortunately for Hogan, Arnold eventually got the role and Hogan was saved from being part of the disastrous movie that bombed in the box office. If he had taken up the role, Hogan’s stock in Hollywood would have taken a big fall and also would have made him a cult figure for the new generation meme generators.

#3 Scouted by New York Yankees

While Hogan’s wrestling skills is well known around the world, not many people know how good he was in the baseball diamond. As a teenager, Hogan was a great pitcher and even attracted attention from major teams like the New York Yankees and Cincinnati Red Scouts. His baseball dreams were all set to take off but unfortunately for him, he picked up an injury at the age of 16 which in turn forced him to give up the sport.

Also, during his teenage years, Hogan was a bass guitar player. He used to earn money by performing in clubs and was part of many music bands in Florida. Hogan wanted to play music full-time, but thankfully for the wrestling world, it did not work out well for him and he ended up becoming a wrestler.

#2 Hogan dropped out of college to become a musician

Hogan’s love for music was mentioned in the earlier slide but one thing that was not mentioned last time around was the thing he did for a career in music. The guy dropped out of college before getting his degree so that he could play music full time. Hogan was majoring in Business Management when he was 20. He studied at the University of South Florida and when he realized that he didn’t like the whole idea of managing something, he dropped out.

He later formed a band called Ruckus and he played bass in it. The band did not take off as Hogan wanted but then again, he got his right footing in professional wrestling. And this is another example of a college dropout going to become famous (wouldn’t recommend though).

#1 He almost committed Suicide in 2007

2007 proved to be a hard year in the life of Hulk Hogan. His was being embarrassed by his wife publicly while his children were caught up in almost all the problems. Brooke Hogan’s music career was not taking off and Nick Hogan was spending his time in jail. All these pushed Hogan to the limit and he eventually considered suiciding.

He was on a drinking spree and had Xanax to go along with the alcohol. The scariest part of the scene was the gun that he had on his temple. However, before Hogan could do anything stupid, Leila Ali, who was Hogan’s co-host on the American Gladiators reboot called him. The call broke Hogan’s train of thoughts and he managed to turn around his life for the good.
