10 Times a finishing move was done wrong in WWE

Seeing a move being botched in the WWE is either funny or scary. The scary part is when someone gets seriously injured in the process and the funny part comes when, you know, when it is funny. What is funnier than a move being botched? A finishing move being botched. The finishers are supposed to be the best moves in a wrestler’s arsenal and if he cannot pull off the same, then there is nothing more embarrassing than that. There have been a lot of such situations in the WWE’s rich history. And we are going to take some time out to look into such situations where a finishing move was messed up either in a funny way or in a scary manner.

#12 Honorable Mention: Orton and His RKO

Orton delivers some exceptional RKOs and then there are things like this.

#11 Honorable Mention: Ziggler\'s famasser

It is not every day that you see Dolph Ziggler mess up a move.

#10 Not Going to Sleep

youtube-cover

Even though CM Punk has done a lot of things that he shouldn’t have done, he is one of the greatest wrestlers that was there in the business. Punk botching up moves was a rare scenario and Punk botching up his finishing move was a rarer scene.

It happened in the match against Kane and it would be hard to blame Punk for this. Performing the Go to Sleep on a 300 pounder requires a lot of strength and though Punk tried his best, he could not do it perfectly this time around. It ended up being a botched finisher and is still one of those moments that Punk would love to forget.

#9 Bottom Slips away

Another one involving Punk and this time he was facing The Rock. Rock and Punk faced off in the 2013 Royal Rumble match and Rock went for this great spot where he was supposed to Rock Bottom Punk into the announce table.

The Spanish Announce table, known for taking some of the most memorable moves in wrestling however had other ideas. Just when Rock was ready to deliver the Rock Bottom, the Spanish announce table gave away, forcing Rock and Punk to slip down. Rock later delivered the planned move on floor but we wanted to see it on the table didn’t we?

#8 Batista Bombs

Before he became Bluetista, Batista had a solid run in the main event scene. It was his power and looks that made WWE push him to the top of the company and he had a strong finisher in the form of the Batista bomb. The problem with such finishers is that, you cannot simply pull it off on anyone.

Batista learned this the hard way during his match against Booker T. The Animal tried delivering the move to a 260 pound Booker but botched it to the core. Batista did deliver some sort of variation in the end, but a botch is always a botch no matter what happens.

#7 Swaggers nightmares

Jack Swagger’s entry into the list comes thanks to his match with Alex Riley. Riley has been kept of the in ring competition in the main roster and matches like this might have contributed in WWE doing so.

In the last sequence of the match, Swagger was supposed to pick up Riley and deliver the gut wrench power bomb. However, Riley proved to be dead weight during the procedure and Swagger couldn’t pick his opponent up. This resulted in an awkwardly botched finisher and an embarrassing moment for the Real American. Although it was a bad thing in front of the fans for Swagger, it was probably Riley, who got the heat backstage.

#6 Show slips on imaginary banana

youtube-cover

Performing moves on a big wrestler like Big Show is no easy task. It takes a lot of power, and care to deliver the moves safely but Kane forgot about this when he tried to chokeslam The World’s largest Athlete.

During a segment with the two behemoths, Instead of jumping up and going to the ground to sell the chokeslam, Big Show ended up just falling backwards as though he slipped in some banana peel. It was one of the most botched chokeslams from the Big red monster and he is likely to have nightmares about this just like Swagger does with his gut wrench power bombs.

#5 Linda McMahon Stunned

youtube-cover

Stone Cold Steve Austin and his stunners were a mouthwatering combination back during the attitude Era. The number of people who got stunned by the Texas Rattle Snake is just damn too high and while some take it perfectly, there are others, which make it look like a small deal.

Vince McMahon’s wife, Linda belongs to the latter list. Although Linda is not a wrestler by profession, Stunner is probably one of the easiest moves out there to take. This fact made it look even funnier and at the end of the day, it did no harm to Austin on the longer run and neither did it harm Linda.

#4 Feed him less

youtube-cover

Ryback is known to be a power house. WWE fed him jobber after jobber for destruction and expected the same results when they made him face Tensai. One thing they forgot in amidst of all these was how heavy Tensai was.

Once the match reached its climax, Ryback went to perform his finisher, the Shell shock. He however could not lift Tensai up in the first attempt. The second attempt was equally hilarious and once Ryback realized it was not going to happen, he just picked up Tensai and dropped him in what turned out to be the worst version of Shell shock.

#3 Viper misses his prey

youtube-cover

Second entry for Orton after the Honorable Mention, this one is more embarrassing than the first one. We have seen Randy Orton pull off some viral RKOs but it hasn’t been the case in every situation. Orton has had his fair share of botches down the road.

The match involved the likes of Orton, Chris Jericho and Batista and the Viper was supposed to deliver a RKO to Jericho while he was applying the wall of Jericho to Batista. Orton however couldn’t get the job done and not only did he botch, the other wrestlers completely ignored what Orton did, making him look like a fool.

#2 6...1...botch

youtube-cover

Rey Mysterio and his 619 were in the news lately for all the wrong reasons. It was the scarier side of wrestling as mentioned earlier but on a lighter note, Mysterio has had funny botches in his career as well. One among the lot is this completely messed up 619. We cannot actually call it a 619 since it is nowhere near the real deal.

Some fan in the crowd captured the moment perfectly and instead of sending his opponents flying with the kick, Mysterio himself flew out of the ring, in one of ‘the’ funniest botches in Mysterio’s career. Imagine this happening on pay-per-view.

#1 Owen Hart Messes Up the Piledriver

youtube-cover

Piledriver is one of the moves banned in the WWE for all the right reasons. The late Owen Hart used this as his finisher back in the mid-90s and thanks to his botch, the entire landscape of the WWE changed.

The incident happened in the 1997 SummerSlam when Owen Hart face Stone Cold Steve Austin for the Intercontinental Championship. Austin was supposed to win the championship at the pay-per-view but during a sequence, Owen miscued his piledriver and made Austin land on his head. Austin’s neck was broken immediately and it was one of the reasons why his career in the WWE was short-lived. It was never Owen’s fault in the first place but it shows how dangerous the sport of professional wrestling can be.
