10 times size disparity among wrestlers led to intriguing matches

Shane O Mac v Kane

The Big ShowThroughout WWE history, one of the most interesting and popular match dynamics was the classic ‘David v Goliath’ situation. Feuds in which the much smaller but beloved underdog struggled to conquer the much larger heel beast.Everyone loves watching the small underdogs, such as Rey Mysterio and Shane McMahon, attempt to battle the large monsters, such as The Big Show and Brock Lesnar. So let’s take a look now at 10 important matches/feuds that focused on a large size disparity and thus created intriguing bouts.

#10 Kane v Shane McMahon

Shane O Mac v Kane

Kane is indeed a very large athlete, although sometimes compared to some others, he isn’t necessarily the biggest. However in comparison to the small underdog Shane McMahon, he truly was a monster.

Kane and Shane O Mac faced each other on a variety of different occasions and each time they delivered an amazing bout that truly captivated the fans in attendance.

Unfortunately for Kane, this will be the last time he appears on the list, however Shane O Mac will make another appearance.

#9 Big Show v John Cena

Cena pinned Show to win the US title

When I mention these two, I'm talking about their bout at Wrestlemania 20. Back when Cena was still interesting, back when Show was still a dominant force to be reckoned with, back before Cena was a multi-time world champ who won every match, back when these two actually produced compelling matches together.

This was John Cena’s first Wrestlemania match and he genuinely was the underdog as he challenged the almighty Big Show for the United States Championship.

Seeing the much smaller John Cena lift Big Show up and over his shoulders for the Attitude Adjustment (then called the ‘FU’) was quite a sight to see.

Cena would defeat Show marking his first ever title reign in WWE.

#8 Rey Mysterio vs Great Khali

Face off between Khali and Mysterio

The Great Khali might not have been the greatest pro wrestler, but simply his sheer statue was enough to draw fans in. Standing at over 7 feet tall, the Great Khali was truly a monster of a human being. Rey Mysterio on the other, standing at well under 6 foot, was one of WWEs smallest athletes.

When these two first faced off and Mysterio barley passed Khalis waist, it was an extremely enthralling sight.

Khali would soon become world champion but his lack of wrestling ability and poor booking eventually led to his downfall.

#7 Big Show v Shane McMahon

Shane O Mac

For someone that had no formal wrestling training, Shane McMahon was extremely talented, always willing to take a risk and very popular with the fans because of this. His amazing last man standing bout against the Big Show was a perfect example of this. Shane O Mac was the beloved underdog who kept on fighting hard to try and slay the Big Show.

Eventually, after some interference, Shane delivered one of the most memorable moments in WWE history, delivering a huge elbow drop from a ridiculous height, thus capturing the victory.

#6 Big Show v Rey Mysterio

Big Show & Rey Mysterio

Big Show and Rey Mysterio have feuded numerous times over the years and have always obviously relied on the ‘big v small’ dynamic.

There’s no specific match between these two that has stood out amongst the rest, but simply every time they step inside the ring together, it is quite intriguing to watch.

One of the most memorable moments these two have had together was when Big Show picked up Rey, who was strapped down to a stretcher, and brutally slammed him into the ring post before dropping Rey who landed awkwardly on his head.

#5 Brock Lesnar v Zach Gowen

Gowen v Lesnar

Brock Lesnar always has been and still is an absolute beast. Zach Gowen though, was a fairly small, scrawny individual. Furthermore, he only had one leg, which truly made this feud a complete mismatch.

Ultimately though, with only one leg, any feud Gowen was in would be a mismatch, but wrestling a pure beast just completely upped the ante.

One of the most shocking moments of their feud, came after Lesnar allegedly broke Gowens good leg, thus confining him to a wheelchair. Then, in a scandalous display, Lesnar shoved the wheelchair confined Gowen down a large flight of stairs

#4 Big Show v Floyd Maywhether

Money Mayweather battled Show at mania

Once again, the very large Big Show finds himself on this list, this time in bout that became one of the better celebrity matches in WWE history.

The legendary, undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather is a fairly small athlete anyways. But when compared to the monstrous Big Show, Mayweather is tiny.

At Wrestlemania 24, Mayweather stepped inside a WWE ring to battle the Big Show in what turned out to be a fairly solid match up. Floyd eventually won thanks to some outside interferences and a brass knuckles knockout.

#3 Andre the Giant v Hulk Hogan

The classic

One of the most well-known and famous matches in all of WWE history, the Wrestlemania main event that helped put WWE on the map.

Hulk Hogan was by no means a small athlete, but in comparison to Andre, the size difference was huge. That was what made the match so exciting, as fans were genuinely unsure about Hogan’s ability to defeat the unstoppable giant.

Wrestlemania 3 will forever live on in infamy largely due to Hogan overcoming the odds, body slamming Andre, and defeating the much larger giant.

#2 Yokozuna v Bret Hart

Yokozuna and Hart battled at WM 9 & 10

Bret Hart is largely renowned as one of the greatest technical wrestlers while Yokozuna is also extremely talented for such a large individual. So putting these two together was always destined for greatness.

Their first big match at Wrestlemania 9 was good, except the aftermath involving Hulk Hogan always left a black mark on the bout.

However, the two would wrestle again at Wrestlemania 10, this time with Bret Hart picking up the win, something that should have happened the year before.

#1 Brock Lesnar v Eddie Guerrero

Eddie defeated Lesnar

Perhaps the greatest ‘David v Goliath’ story in the history of professional wrestling. Eddie Guerrero was the beloved underdog, facing the monster heel champion, Brock Lesnar. Eddie’s chances certainly seemed slim.

The match these two produced was quite compelling and in the end, the underdog Guerrero was able to pick up the miracle win, becoming the WWE champion, even if he had some help from Goldberg.

Watching Guerrero capture the championship was truly an emotional moment for wrestling fans all over the world.

Please feel free to comment below any other important matches we missed that focused on the ‘big monster v small underdog’ dynamic.
