5 Best booking decisions for the Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins Feud

Time for the change

A Special guest referee and subsequent turn The WWE Championship reign of Seth Rollins is all set to be hit by a road block called Roman Reigns. The Samoan Superman won the No.1 contender tournament on Raw to get his shot at Rollins and now, WWE has to come up with a compelling storyline for these two.On the surface, it is a fight for the WWE championship. If we go down deeper, it is a personal affair as well. Rollins was the one who messed up the WrestleMania moment of Reigns and Rollins was also the one who turned on his brothers. So, the heel-babyface dynamics are well defined for this feud. Despite these solid basics, there are certain booking decisions that might make the feud a better one and we are going to take a look at them.

#5 Letting these two headline Survivor Series

Time for the change

WWE is currently in a transition phase right now. They are in desperate need of establishing new stars and the absence of Brock Lesnar, John Cena and Randy Orton makes this the best opportunity to do the same.

Undertaker might find a place in the card with a traditional Survivor Series match, but if WWE let Reigns and Rollins wrestle as show stoppers, then their intentions will be clear as the light of the day.

Secondly, it will be a big boost for the WWE championship. The value of the title has taken a big blow due to WWE’s booking and allowing it to be the centre stage for a show like Survivor Series is a ride in the right direction.

#4 Authority backs Roman Reigns

Authority cane help Reigns look good

WWE is trying to put Roman Reigns over as a baby face. They want him to be the next franchise player for the company and take over the throne of John Cena.

However, there is a big problem in all these sceanrios: the WWE fan base is split when it comes to John Cena. Half of them love him and half of them hate him. And the funny part is, Reigns has already started to attract the ‘Let’s go Roman, Roman Sucks’ chants.

So is this what WWE want Reings to become? Just a replica of the Cenation leader?

Clearly not, so what WWE needs to do is make Roman different and the best way is to let him do something that Cena cannot: turn heel. If Roman turns heel and aligns with the Authority, it will automatically make Rollins a babyface. Rollins will clearly excel as one whereas Roman can showcase his talent in being a heel.

#3 A special Guest referee

A Cousin vs. Cousin Showdown

Adding special Guest referees to matches are always a shortcut in making them more dramatic.

It adds more star power and at the same time, adds anticipation, which is one of the five pillars of storytelling in professional wrestling. Whenever, there is a special guest referee, we anticipate a possible turn from him and this keeps us on the edge of the seat throughout the bout.

Now, the question is, who should it be. There is a handful of possibilities, but I would like to speak about three: Triple H, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Dean Ambrose.

Triple H because, it offers us a chance to see Hunter vs. Roman Reigns. Rock, because he is a baby face who could turn heel and put over Reigns and Ambrose.

#2 Return of J & J

Too late to change the image

The absence of J & J security is good for Rollins. He could establish himself as a confident champion who needs no one’s help to retain the title.

But isn’t it too late to rebuild that image? The title reign of Rollins is already considered to be a fluke and trying to turn it around at the last minute might be hard for the fans to digest. So instead of trying to put paper over the crack, WWE could let J & J return and stack the odds against Roman Reigns.

Reigns needs to be put over as a baby face and the best way to do this is by making him win the sympathy of fans. If not J & J, WWE could come up with some new stooges for the reigning champion.

#1 Dean Ambrose turns heel

The game changer

Roman Reigns is unlikely to win the title from Seth Rollins at Survivor Series. WWE probably wants Rollins to overwrite the record of CM Punk or otherwise, they might want Reigns to win the gold at WrestleMania.

So they need to keep the title on Rollins and make Reigns look strong in the process. The best possible way to achieve both these things would be an interference. And there isn’t anyone better than Dean Ambrose to do the honor.

Ambrose turning heel and battling Roman Reigns through to Royal Rumble or beyond opens up the possibility of getting a Triple Threat bout between the Shield members at WrestleMania. Since Ambrose is an excellent heel, the fans will not have many complaints as well.
