5 reasons why Sting vs Triple H should lead to WWE – WCW angle

In less than two weeks’ time, WWE will roll out with its biggest pay – per – view of the year, WrestleMania 31. The main event will feature Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns for the WWE World Heavyweight championship, and one of the marquee bouts on the card is the much anticipated showdown between Triple H and the icon, Sting.WWE has billed the match as 14 years in the making, and indeed, it has taken 14 years for the Stinger to sign with the WWE and appear on WWE TV. Sting was considered as the face of WCW, and throughout the angle, Triple H has threatened to put WCW’s memories to rest once and for all by beating the man who personified and epitomized the organization. In this article, we give you five reasons why their match at WrestleMania should lead to a WWE vs. WCW angle going forward.

#1 Potential build up to WCW One Night Stand

WWE has been toying around with the idea of bringing WCW back for one night, similar to what they had done with ECW in the beginning. For quite a while, WWE has been planning on doing a One Night Stand PPV involving some of the recognizable faces from the old WCW. While WCW went out of business nearly a decade and a half ago, the One Night Stand will undoubtedly appeal to yesteryear’s fans, who were ardent supporters of the organization.

With WWE trying to expand their demographic while bringing in more eyes, the One Night Stand idea is certainly worth trying at least once. The match at WrestleMania 31 between Triple H and Sting can serve as the initiation of the PPV, with Stinger beating Triple H, and Triple H vowing to bury WCW once and for all at the One Night Stand PPV. Revenue wise, it certainly won’t hurt the WWE to take advantage of the nostalgia the fans still have for WCW.

#2 A chance to correct past mistakes

Back when Vince McMahon bought WCW and ECW, WWE went ahead with the Invasion angle, but the whole storyline was poorly executed and was criticized by the fans and wrestling pundits alike. With Vince McMahon not willing to lose, even in storyline to WCW and ECW, the WWE completely buried the WCW talent, and 14 years later, WWE once again has the opportunity to correct the past mistakes.

With Stinger beating Triple H at WrestleMania, it would give the WWE the chance to do another WWE vs. WCW angle, with Triple H leading the WWE superstars, while Stinger can bring back some of the old faces from WCW for a showdown between the two factions. If executed properly, this storyline can be stretched till Survivor Series, with one final battle at the PPV to find the undisputed numero uno in the world of professional wrestling.

This would also give the new fan base the opportunity to understand and witness the legacy of WCW, while bringing the old fans back to witness the current product.

#3 Lead up to the final match of WCW legends

For years now, superstars such as Hulk Hogan have been requesting WWE for one final match in the organization. Not so long ago, even Bill Goldberg was rumored to be in talks with the WWE brass for one final run in the wrestling business. With Sting added to the mix, and supposedly scheduled to go into the WWE Hall of Fame next year, these set of performers need a big send off, and with the WWE vs. WCW rivalry, that would be a huge possibility next year.

With Stinger rumored to retire after WrestleMania 32, with his opponent being The Undertaker (although those rumors have since cooled off), there is still a chance that the iconic superstar, along with Hulk Hogan will have one final match at WrestleMania 32, and bringing back WCW could open a lot of doors for potential feuds and storylines, to give a fitting farewell to the two greatest superstars in professional wrestling history.

#4 Creating a new brand

The idea behind RAW going live for 3 hours was the possibility of more number of superstars getting air – time on the A – show, but that hasn’t happened. Instead, RAW has had more fillers and segments, and with a large pool of performers having to sit backstage, there is a need for another show besides RAW and Smackdown! There were also talks about WWE rebranding Smackdown! by bringing back some of the aspects of WCW Monday Nitro, thus creating a more exciting product.

With WWE in dire need of a shake – up, this can be the perfect opportunity for the organization to go back to the drawing board and bring in some much needed transformations within the organization. With Triple H slowly taking over, and with his intentions to make WWE more competitive and wrestling centric, this can give the fans exactly what they’ve been yearning for, for the past few years, while also giving the younger fans a glimpse of what WCW was all about.

#5 Opportunity to create a fresh product

The Cruiserweight division was first started by Eric Bischoff in WCW, and the innovative concept of lucha libre wrestling in the United States gave WCW the competitive edge over their rivals, the WWE back in mid 90s. Today, WWE needs something similar to spark interest in wrestling fans once again, and by doing a WWE vs. WCW rivalry, we can once again witness the fresh product that made WCW unique. With the cruiserweights and unique PPV ideas, WWE can put forward a fresh product, giving the fans what they truly deserve.

With Sting – Triple H showdown at WrestleMania 31, the possibilities are endless regarding how the rivalry can be furthered. If WWE decides to bring back WCW either as a one – off PPV or a brand, it would not only help the superstars, but would bring back the fans that have stopped watching the product, which can only be good for the WWE.
