5 things you might not know about the Royal Rumble

Kane is a true Rumble legend

It’s time to Rumble! The Royal Rumble takes place at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida this Sunday. The PPV is one of the most popular in the company and its signature namesake match might just be the most exciting match ever devised. For Latest WWE Royal Rumble 2016 updates & News, download SK Live app.WWE has promoted every Rumble match effectively, throwing in facts and figures to make it interesting. We all know that Austin has won most Rumble matches (3), Roman Reigns has most eliminations in a single Rumble (12) and that Shawn Michaels was the first person to win the Rumble entering at #1.However, there are some lesser known Rumble facts that are just as interesting. Let the list begin!!!

#1 Kane has entered a record 18 Royal Rumble matches

Kane is a true Rumble legend

WWE has consistently referred to Kane as a Royal Rumble legend – his 11 eliminations at the 2001 Rumble stood as the record for most eliminations till Roman Reigns came around to shatter that record in 2014.

The fans would also remember that Kane is the man with the most eliminations in Rumble history – with 43.

But what people might not realise is that Kane has entered the most Royal Rumble matches and so it is not surprising that he has the record for overall eliminations. Believe it or not, Kane has been in 18 Royal Rumble matches, the first being in 1996 as Issac Yankem.

He has also had a Rumble appearance as the fake Diesel. It is a shame that the WWE never saw him worthwhile to win the entire thing even once.

#2 Owen Hart won the first ever non televised Royal Rumble

Both Hart brothers would win separate Rumble matches in 1994

There have been seven instances of a Royal Rumble match not happening at a Pay Per View. While five of those seven matches were at least televised on Raw or SmackDown, two were non-televised events, held at house shows.

Only one among the seven had a 30 member field, as is the norm for the Rumble. It took place in a house show at Madison Square Garden in 1994. Owen Hart would win the Rumble, last eliminating Fatu.

This would lead to a unique double for the Hart family as Owen's brother Bret would win the actual Royal Rumble match that year. Incidentally, an 18 member Rumble would occur that same year at Osaka, Japan which was won by the Undertaker.

#3 Lex Luger\'s Rumble heartache

Luger could not take the gold off Yokozuna

The concept that the winner of the Royal Rumble would gain a Wrestlemania title shot was established in 1993.

Since then, all the Royal Rumble winners have gone on to become WWE Champions at some point in their careers – except one man. Lex Luger carries the unfortunate distinction of having won the Rumble and never becoming a WWE Champion.

Luger was the co-winner of the 1994 event alongside Bret Hart and both superstars went on to face Yokozuna at Wrestlemania in two separate matches for the gold. Luger would lose to Yoko, but Bret would emerge victorious in the second match to become the WWE Champion.

Luger would jump ship to WCW soon and would become a two-time World Champion there, though.

#4 100 % Rumble record

Will Brock Lesnar’s Rumble streak end this year?

Three men have remained unbeaten in Rumble matches – mainly because they won the only Rumble in which they participated in. The awesome trio are Big John Studd, Brock Lesnar and surprise, surprise – Vince McMahon.

Big John Studd would win the 1989 Royal Rumble last eliminating Ted DiBiase. It would only be from 1993 that the Rumble winners received a title shot at Wrestlemania and Studd was consigned to refereeing a match between Andre the Giant and DiBiase at the ensuing Wrestlemania.

Brock Lesnar would eliminate the Undertaker to win the 2003 Rumble and would beat Kurt Angle in the main event of Wrestlemania 19 to win the WWE Championship. He would leave the WWE after the next year’s Wrestlemania, never to compete in the Royal Rumble again (until this year).

Vince McMahon would win the 1999 Royal Rumble, but would relinquish his World title shot soon after.

#5 Poor A-Train

A-Train (left) has never had a single Rumble elimination

Whether it be as A-Train, Albert, Tensai or Sweet T, Matt Bloom holds the dubious record for never having eliminated a single person from the Rumble. The 6’7’’ 350-pound monster has entered six Royal Rumble matches but has failed to break his Rumble duck.

Consider the fact that even Hornswoggle has eliminated a person at the Rumble and you understand the enormity of Bloom’s feat(?). A-Train has declared himself retired from in-ring action and hence it seems that he will not be getting a chance to end this embarrassing naught.
