WWE Battleground 2014: 5 Promising Developments

This years Battleground was marginally better than its predecessor. Just marginally. And again it was a tag match that turned out to be the best match of the night. And how did that happen with Ambrose Vs Rollins on the card? Oh, actually that match never took place. More on that later in the slideshow. Here are a five promising developments for the very near future and by that I mean both Raw and Summerslam.

#1 The chants for Ziggler won\'t die

I don’t know when WWE will put their trust on Ziggler to carry on the main event scene but I do know that the reaction he gets from the fans is going to stand the test of time. He was incredibly over and all the WWE did was troll the fans by teasing a win for the 33 year old. WWE has been using Ziggler to put over other guys. His win-loss record is appaling but that seems irrelevant to everyone who believes in his potential.

The fans will still wait for the day when the powers that be give Ziggler another chance to show off and the crowd will make sure it happens in a blaze of glory.

#2 The Showstopper

This tag match was the highlight of the entire PPV. A match that was expected to be good and ended up being great. Last year’s Battleground edition saw Cody Rhodes and Goldust face Rollins and Reigns. Dusty Rhodes was at ringside and so was Ambrose and this match was followed by weeks of tyranny by the Authority towards the Rhodes Brothers.

That was arguably the best storyline and the best match from the PPV. And now it seems to turn into a tradition. The Usos and Harper and Rowan made sure that the tag division is still alive and kicking and no matter how many times these two teams collide, it is always going to be must watch.

#3 Anticipation

Long Story short- Ambrose attacked Rollins backstage, Triple H bans Ambrose from arena. Rollins wins by forfeit, Ambrose attacks him stealthily again and again and again.

The disappointment is that this was one of the most anticipated bouts of the night and this match looked quite promising and this writer wrote extensively about the various possibilities in which the match will unravel and ultimately nothing that was expected happened

But as a storyline this is interesting and certainly makes the ultimate showdown between the two something to behold. And what better stage to do it than Summerslam- one of the Big 4.

So we did not see a match but we did see some storytelling.

#4 Rusev- Swagger continues

There was no definite winner by submission or pinfall but Rusev got the better deal as he got Swagger counted out by ramming him into the steel post. lana was phenomenal as always and this was possiblt the best result that this match could have.

This continues this rivalry onto Summerslam. So the most anticipated matches on the card have been promoted to Summerslam and that’s good for all the young talent involved.

#5 Paul Heyman\'s bringing Plan C

The last promising development is probably the beginning of many promising developments on Raw. Paul Heyman tweeted a photo on Twitter following Battleground. It said “In case you're wondering ... Heading to pick up #PlanC ... Just in case. @WWE#RAW” And that was accompanied by a picture of him leaving on an airplane.

That Plan C is most probably going to be Brock Lesnar. In my imagination, it’s CM Punk but all of us know that that boat has sailed.

What makes Sting special? His first AEW opponent opens up RIGHT HERE.
