WWE Extreme Rules 2014: Match card analysis and predictions

After WrestleMania ended up with mixed reviews from the fans, WWE is out to make things better with their latest pay-per-view offering, Extreme Rules. All the major storylines have been brewed up well by the writers and surprisingly, there was also some spotlight given to the mid-carders. The NXT invasion that happened on the night after WrestleMania also made things more interesting as the fans were presented with some fresh faces.Return of evolution and the tournament conducted to determine the No.1 contender for the Intercontinental title sets up the stage well for the pay-per-view while the battle between Bray Wyatt and John Cena inside a cage is sure to be a draw.So lets take a look at how things could end up when Extreme Rules finally commences for the pleasure of WWE Universe.

#5 Predicted Match- Big E (c) vs. Cesaro (Intercontinental Championship)

The winner of the tournament will only be known next week, but from the looks of it, everything was designed to give Cesaro the big push.

Despite Bad News Barrett, Rob Van Dam and Sheamus still being alive in the tournament, the King of Swing is not going to take a fall for any of them as he is the hottest property in the business at the moment.

The run apparently is going to end with Cesaro winning the title might prove to be the first step for the big push that he is going to receive. Big E on the other hand will have tough time staying relevant after dropping the title, but as things stands now, Cesaro winning the title will only enhance the status of the title.

There won’t be a stopping to Cesaro if he wins the tournament and Heyman will definetly have more to boast after at Extreme Rules.

#4 John Cena vs. Bray Wyatt (Steel Cage Match)

A follow up of the exciting feud that had its first stop at WrestleMania, this match is sure to be a cracker. Bray couldn’t expose the monster inside Cena at WrestleMania and the Cenation leader went on to deny that he has one.

But once he steps inside the cage with Bray, Cena will have to awaken the monster inside him for mere survival.

WWE would book Bray stronger this time around and might even give him a win to shoot up his credibility. Cena accusing Bray of not getting things done stuck with the fans and if WWE doesn’t acknowledge that, they are going to end up with a ruined character.

Erick Rowan and Luke Harper will be taken out of the match due to the stipulation and Cena could flourish on the one on one situation. Bray on the other hand will be trying to make the match look like Cena’s worst night mare and could go home with the win as well.

#3 Paige (c) vs. Tamina Snuka (Divas Championship)

When Paige got into the main roster and immediately got hold of the title, what we expected was a long feud between her and AJ Lee. But that plans have been put on hold since AJ is taking her time off and instead WWE gave us the next best thing, Tamina.

Tamina has been overshadowed by AJ for a long time and AJ’s absence is already benefiting her. Even though, Tamina might not win the title, she is going to have a nice rub that will show everyone how effective she could be.

On the other hand, it will be the first real test for Paige and her main roster stay. WWE have projected her as a diva who clearly struggles on the early going and to be frank, Paige hasn’t shown her full skills after getting a call up.

A big stage like Extreme Rules might be the place for her to unleash herself but it is highly unlikely since WWE might go with the underdog idea due to Tamina’s dominant character.

#2 Predicted Match- Daniel Bryan vs. Kane (WWE World Heavyweight title)

With Daniel Bryan’s immediate competitors busy with the Shield and Kane breaking out of the suit, this is the most likely way in which WWE could book the two at Extreme Rules.

It might not be the best feud for Daniel Bryan after coming off a great win at WrestleMania but it is the best option he has now. The match also makes sense since Kane and Bryan has a lot of history between them.

Though they had a lot of matches heading to WrestleMania, a masked Kane will be entirely different from the one we saw in the suit. Bryan knows to carry his opponents as well and don’t be surprised if Stephanie tries to lend some help.

Kane will surely fall for the flying goat as the purpose of this match will be to give Bryan some momentum as champion and get the fans familiar with his title reign.

#1 The Shield (Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns) vs. Evolution (Triple H, Batista and Randy Orton)

It’s going to be a clash between the past and the present when these two factions will step into the ring to reign supreme at Extreme Rules.

The purpose of the whole thing is to put over the Shield but it could turn out to be something better. For starters, Batista and Orton are having great relevance thanks to the angle and fans are being swept by nostalgia which always is a good thing.

Triple H being active in the ring is another exciting prospect about the whole thing, while leaving Bryan alone adds the freshness. Reigns, Rollins and Ambrose are apparently getting the best push possible for their face run as well.

It’s a war between the stables that takes us back into the Attitude Era but the best part is that this could only be the beginning of the feud that could headline the promotion through the summer.

And since it’s the beginning, Shield might have to take the fall as well to let Evolution have their momentum built up.
