While this PPV does not boast of a spectacular build up, it does well for itself given the name of the PPV and the locations where it’s held. The hardcore crowd in Chicago were in for WWE’s PG version or borderline PG Version of Extreme Rules. It was a decent 3 hours but it had some moments which WWE could have done without. A few individuals came out looking like a million bucks and this PPV was made memorable only because of their performances. There were some unexpected moments as well. Here are the five promising developments from this years’ edition of Extreme Rules-

#1 Rollins is Still your Champion

For all the things expected out of this match, an RKO from Seth Rollins was not one of them. Seth Rollins won the match. Kane is still part of the Authority. Orton has been wronged and so Rollins and Orton will meet again, it seems. It’s not over yet. The match between these two was good. There was nothing less expected but this was just a way to continue Rollins’ journey as a Champion. And that’s a good sign.

Storyline wise it won’t be that memorable. The high spots obviously waned in front of what these two followed. Also, how could they follow Big Show Vs Roman Reigns?

#2 Surprise

Roman Reigns does not deserve the boos anymore. The guy has improved so much since the Royal Rumble, added new moves to his arsenal, improved his mic work and we all know his backstory.

Reigns and Big Show delivered a surprisingly awesome match. When was the last time you expected that out of a match that involved the Big Show. It’s undeniable that this match turned out to be the best match of the night and most of that had probably got to do with how consistently disappointing anything becomes when Big Show is involved these days.

This arguably was the most pleasant surprise of the night.

#3 A New Heel in Town

While the women’s match was not much to boast about, WWE pulled off something a bit unexpected. They made the Bellas look weak in front of the newest heel in the division- Naomi.

Naomi was quite dominant throughout the match. She was waiting for this opportunity for the longest time and she had finally recieved it after she rendered Paige injured. But the cheap finish to this match signalled that we might see Naomi vye for the title again.

And as per her peformznces, promo work and new attitude, she’s a welcome addition to the title picture.

#4 A Star is Born

This was pretty apt. No matter how many times they make Barrett lose, he’s still got the presence of a tough guy. When given the time, he sure lives up to his reputation of a brawler and produces great matches. He walked in with as much authority and pride in his voice calling himself the Michael Jordan of England. Neville came into this PPV as Daniel Bryan’s replacement.

And then he stole the show.

It was a perfect display of how there is a new face in town, a star in the making, a man who gravity has actually forgot. Neville rose to the occasion and was given the opportunity to score a win over Barrett.

That’s some big momentum going forward.

#5 A Win

For so long, WWE knows that they have a really popular star in Dean Ambrose but they just don’t put him in well- written storylines anymore. That was the one thing that prevented Ambrose vs Harper from being a classic. These two lived up to their gimmick in some fashion and delivered a decent match but the biggest takeaway from this match is Ambrose getting that one PPV victory that eluded him for so long since the Shield parted ways.

This match was purely there for the spots, the violence and the craziness and in that aspect it was pretty much fun. And their match continued beyond other matches. They just went all around the arena and back for this one.
