The WWE universe are a bunch of guys who will probably stop at nothing when it comes to voicing out their opinion. Whether the authority likes it or not, they will leave no stone unturned in speaking their mind out.If you have probably never watched the sport before and tune into it for the first time, you will easily segregate the good guys from the bad ones or the face from the heels with the reaction they attract from the WWE universe.Over the years, there have been a lot of chants that have attained 'cult' status in the WWE. However, with the 'PG' era still in progress, the fans have toned down their chants to suit the need of the hour. So, let us have a look at some of the popular fan chants we hear in modern times.

#1 What?

This is by far the most popular chant ever in the WWE. A chant popularized by one of the greatest superstars to step foot in the WWE ring, ie "The Texas Rattlesnake' Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Everytime Austin stepped foot into the ring, he always had a mouthful to say to the 'anticipating' fans. So, they used to 'what' him at the end of every sentence in unision. The origin of this can perhaps be traced to Austin constantly 'what'ing' anybody that disagreed to what he said or to show his strong disapproval and put them off track.

Despite Austin's absence from the WWE, the fans still continue to chant 'what' everytime somebody picks up the microphone.

#2 This is awesome

The WWE universe never fail to give their superstars the credit they deserve. Everytime something spectacular happens in the ring, the WWE fans show their appreciation with the 'this is awesome' chant which is usaully followed by five applauses in tandem.

The chant can regularly be seen when a superstar kicks out of a finisher at the 2 count or when both wrestlers have given it their all in the squared circle with some 'gravity defiying' offence.

Now-a-days, the chant is mainly reserved for the pay per view matches. You don't see many of these chants during house shows and weeklies. The WWE keeps its best for the PPV's only and the fans acknowledge this as well.

#3 Holy S**t

The last time we really managed to see a host of 'holy s**t' moments in the WWE was probably at ECW's 'One night stand'. The WWE has really toned down the offence to a great extent after that.

Anyways, this is one chant that makes you go nuts. A chant that lets the world know that you have witnessed something that is humanely impossible. A chant you can probably hear when superstars jump from top of steel cages, jump through tables, mercilessly come in contact with steel objects around the ring and what not.

The Money in the Bank and the Extreme rules PPVs are synonymous with the above mentioned chants.

#4 You still got it

This one is reserved for the legends that the WWE universe dearly adore.

One of the very few things that the WWE has done right in recent times is encourage a lot of legends to make a return to the ring and make relevant contributions to storylines. Superstars like Ric Flair, Bret Hart, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Mic Foley and many more constantly make appearances throughout the year in the squared circle.

And as the dear fans would love to see them showcase a 'small bit' of their individualistic offences, the WWE caters to their needs by providing a lot of canon fodder to these legends. Hence, when they deliver a finisher on these rookies, the fans get excited and let them know that they still got what it takes to continue wrestling.

#5 Yeah/Boo

This is again one of those immortal chants that the WWE fans have at their mercy. It is a clear indicator as to who is the good guy and who is not.

As common sense would say it, 'yeah' expresses support and 'boo' expresses unhappiness or displasure. It looks to be quite a simple chant at first. But the juncture where it is used is what makes this chant one of the best ones.

During high profile matches where both superstars, after some impressive offence are fallen right in the middle of the ring. Then, both of them manage to get to their feet slowly and in the process trade blows or kicks to prevent one another from rising. That is when the fans start the chant. For every blow delivered by the 'good guy' you hear a 'yeah' chant and for the vice versa you hear a loud boo. And after a while ,you hear a host of 'yeah's' becasue the good guy gets two to three punches in a sequence and starts dominating proceedings.

This is pretty much the story all the time.
