WWE Fastlane 2016 - 5 points to note

Lynch and Banks won

Wrestling-wise, this was a solid show. This was apparent in the matches for the US title, the IC title, the number one contender’s match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and the second sequel to Chris Jericho Vs AJ Styles. There were a few letdowns as well. The talking segment between Edge and Christian and New Day was rumored to be the launch moment for Enzo and Cass but that did not happen. What happened was a very filler, redundant slew of below average adolescent humour. The Wyatt Family lost to Ryback, Big Show and Kane and nobody cared. Here are the 5 points to note from the second edition of Fastlane-

#5 Not so-reluctant partners

Lynch and Banks won

Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch came out to a good pop. Lynch was wearing a helmet - there is no end to this woman’s charm. She and her partner got along just fine in their match against Naomi and Tamina despite the very first confusion about who’s going to fight first.

Both of them were quite synchronized in their attack afterwards. Banks even got the hot tag after Lynch played the face in peril and much thrill-killing on the part of team B.A.D. This was a decent match overall. The match protected both Lynch and aBnks as both of them got to lock their opponents in their respective submission moves. Banks especially got to it in a very creative way.

They did not even attack each other after they won. Over to the Road to Wrestlemania.

#4 The prizefighter still has the prize

Owens won a great match against Ziggler

The audience was divided early on with ‘Fight Owens Fight’ and ‘Let’s go Ziggler’. Owens even went out to say. “Your hometown likes me more than you’. The IC Champion was especially vitriolic with his trash talk.

Snippets like telling the referee to “stop touching” him to asking Ziggler sardonically “Is that your family?”, his verbal attacks during matches make them immensely more watchable

Ziggler hit the top turnbuckle quite hard which was indicative of the match turning to the champions favor. This match set the mood for the night and became an early contender for the match of the night with many near falls and close calls.

Owens beat the hometown boy.

#3 Not much heat

Charlotte and Brie did not have much in-ring chemistry

Charlotte and Brie Bella came to Fastlane with a better story than the Divas tag team match but the contest did not deliver on that momentum. They did not have the kind of heat or chemistry to really get the audience invested in the match. Charlotte was the obvious favorite to win since it’s expected that she will face Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch in a triple threat match.

And even though their matchg wasn’t that great it was still better than the redundant tag team match that the Wyatts lost and the talking segment involving Edge and Christian and The New Day.

#2 Styles beats Y2J twice

Styles and Jericho impressed again

AJ Styles faced Chris Jericho for the third time and convincingly won. The crowd had divided chants throughout the match and they were thoroughly invested in what both men had to do. They shook hands in the end but not before Styles asked Jericho if he wanted to fight it out one more time.

Well regardless of if there is an encore to this or not Styles proved what Jericho set out to prove - that he is not just great but phenomenal.

#1 Settle it at Mania

And just like that the main event was on its way. Brother Vs Brother Vs Beast. Brock Lesnar looked every bit the anomaly that he has been and he wasn’t the one to be pinned. Just as expected Dean Ambrose was pinned by his brother Roman Reigns.

It was all obvious but they got to it by putting The Beast through two tables and then having Ambrose decimate him with chair shots.

Reigns speared Ambrose out to win and then continue the story that has been in the making for a long, long time. Triple H Vs Roman Reigns will main event the biggest WrestleMania of all time.

What makes Sting special? His first AEW opponent opens up RIGHT HERE.
