WWE Monday Night RAW: 5 Promising Developments - September 1, 2014

I think the biggest challenge that the WWE management faces is the writing. And even though some segments of the night had some potential, it was either wasted by bad performances or predictability eventually surrounding it. Nonetheless, here are five promising developments for the very near future.

#1 The Attention to the Divas division

It helps that Stephanie McMahon was present in this segment. I don’t know how horrible it could or could not have been if it just had Paige, AJ, Nikki and Brie. Only AJ was expected to give a decent performance on the mic given the history of the other 3 divas in the recent past.

And the staredown between her and Stephanie did save this segment. What is very promising is that the length of this segment and the fact that it was just about the divas. This attention to the division is certainly welcome and promising change.

#2 Paul Heyman Promo

“You can stack that entire locker room together and multiply it by infinity and it still will not equal half of the brutality John Cena will be subjected to at Night of Champions at the hands of my client, Brock Lesnar!”

Certainly the highlight of the night. He sold the main event at Night Of Champions just like he did for the one at Summerslam. The dedication with which he speaks makes you want to believe each and every word he is saying. Heyman can be a really compelling political figure, just by the way.

There are only few things, few people that stand the test of time and be the most reliable source to save a show from being a total disaster. Cena-Punk matches, The Shield’s matches and Paul Heyman’s promos are some of them.

#3 Rusev Vs Henry

This week the WWE certainly made it somewhat clear that the Rusev-Henry segment from 2 weeks ago wasn’t a one-off moment. It is certainly something that they’ll be continuing upon. This sure seems to be another match where Rusev will get to showcase his strengths. The thing about Mark Henry is the character that he’s become in the past 3 years. Itis just so much fun to see him trash talk his opponents in the ring. He has even given one of the best promos in Raw history last year.

This is certainly a good challenge for the Bulgarian Brute and The Ravishing Russian.

#4 Attention to the Mid Card feuds

Even though it isn’t a spectacular development, it was still great to see the United States and Intercontinental Champions in action against their respective foes. A great addition to the match was the elaborate nature of Miz’s gimmick which was accentuated by Damien Sandow being his body double and a make up artist at ringside.

The IC title bout is much more compelling given the popularity of Ziggler and the heel-ness of Miz. They are certainly two characters who get a desired reaction.

#5 The main event

The main event essentially consisted of present main eventers and future main eventers, all of whom combined to end the night on a good note. It was a predictable way to have Reigns get the pin and Cena doing his usual shtick but it was all quite entertaining to watch. Dean Ambrose was thoroughly missed.

I just like the fact that Rollins hasn’t really had a bad match ever since he betrayed the Shield. Not that he had a bad match before that. I wonder, if his absence would have made the match as good as it was. He’s a heel but he still got what can be qualified as a pop.
