Night of Champions 2014: 5 reasons why Brock Lesnar should retain his title

SummerSlam was capped off with a match that turned the WWE landscape upside down. Brock Lesnar simply ran over the Cenation leader and ended up becoming the new WWE Champion. The match told a good story and was carrying a lot of hype even after it reached its conclusion.Realizing that this angle is too good to drop after one pay-per-view, WWE has booked a rematch between the two at Night of Champions.Unlike the match at SummerSlam, this match would be less predictive now that Cena has started showing a darker side. However, no matter how different Cena is projected by the writers, the match should end with Lesnar’s hands held high and here are the reasons for that.

#5 Break for Cena

Being a professional wrestler is no easy task. There are many physical strains that one has to go through to meet the expectations. This is the case of a regular superstar; the story gets worse when you are the face of a promotion.

Apart from the in ring work, there are promotions that needs to be attended, there are charity events around the world and there are everything and anything.

Cena has been fulfilling all those for quite some time now and is in need of a break desperately. His body has been taking big blows and his doctors have been advising him to keep the work rate down.

Becoming the champion again wouldn’t help Cena achieve that while Lesnar getting a win would give him some breathing space.

#4 Cementing the new Era

Lesnar’s win at SummerSlam was termed as an inception of a new era by the Internet fan community. Heyman’s words suggest the same but there are still doubts that linger around since Lesnar is not known for spending a lot of time in the WWE after returning from UFC.

A win at NOC is what the company could do to end those doubts once and for all.

Everyone who thinks that they are still stuck in a Cena dominated roster would be forced to think otherwise if the beast gets another dominating win.

A new era with Lesnar as the face of the company has only begun and to cement the same, the company should make the one in twenty one and one defeat Cena once again. More brutal it goes, the better it gets.

#3 Avoiding the \'Superman Cena\' syndrome

The main reason why Cena became a polarizing star in WWE is the booking that he got from the creative team. Knowing that he was the face of the company, they often protected him and made it look like Cena could kick out even if he was taken to hell and back.

No matter how big his opponent is, it is Cena who gets the last laugh and when it comes to youngsters, its a much worse scenario for them.

At SummerSlam, Cena got the beating of his life at the hands of Lesnar and the next logical move that WWE would make is to make Cena look good.

This however would turn the fans further against the former champion while a loss would let him come back stronger in the future.

#2 A credible reign for Lesnar

A couple of years back, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson came back to WWE to have a title reign which lasted nearly two months.

His title reign was more about having another match with Cena rather than the title itself but for the fans it was just a part timer stealing the limelight from the ones who deserved to be there.

This was the same reaction that a majority had when Lesnar won the title. One of the things that the company could do to prove their fans wrong is to let Lesnar have a long reign.

The way in which he is booked despite the absences is good enough to carry the reign all the way to WrestleMania or Royal Rumble. It would also go down as a dominating run rather than being a botched one which ended at its first defense.

#1 To attract new fans for the Network

Cena is a big superstar in the professional wresting circle. In fact, he might even be the most popular wrestler. Lesnar on the other hand is someone who broke the walls of the wrestling business and found success elsewhere.

When the name John Cena is said to anyone apart from the regular wrestling fans, one of the most common reactions would be revolving around how professional wrestling is fake.

On the other hand, these same fans know Lesnar as a legitimate fighter. He had record buy rates back in UFC and takes the fake factor out of the table when it comes to fans that arent too close to the WWE.

This might be a big boost for the company to build a new breed of fans who could thrive once they get to know the business more through the Network.
