WWE Night of Champions 2014: Early Match Card Predictions for the Pay-Per-View

After a ground breaking edition of SummerSlam, the writers in WWE havealready started to scribble down the plot for their next pay-per-view, Night of Champions.Unlike the last few years, this years Night of Champions is going to be pushed to infinity and beyond by the creative team as it coincides with the WWE networks renewal. The 9.99 promotions that takes place every week in and week out is clearly not enough to attract the regular fans as all they want is a quality product.A successful SummerSlam has set the tone well for the company to shine at the Bridgestone Arena on September 21. Only the main event between John Cena and Brock Lesnar is confirmed for the pay-per-view so here is a look at how the match card might look when all the buildup will be over.

#7 Brie Bella vs Nikki Bella

Nikki double crossed her sister and aligned with the Authority at SummerSlam which has given the writers an opportunity to run a wild angle with the Bella twins.

Stephanie apparently can’t wrestle at every pay-per-view despite a strong showing last time. And now that Nikki is involved, she could take the place of Stephanie inside the ring while the McMahon girl could cover up the limitations that Cena’s girlfriend has with her acting and promos.

Brie on the other hand might look weak going up against the whole world, but could pull off a good performance. It is a match that has to happen at Night of Champions and if they want to run the angle for another pay-per-view, all they have to do is to make Stephanie the special guest referee for the match to screw Brie.

#6 Cesaro vs Sheamus (United States Championship)

Both Cesaro and Sheamus couldn’t get a good role at SummerSlam but the writers have already made strides to ensure that it won’t be the same at Night of Champions.

The two locked horns on Twitter recently as a fan pointed out that Sheamus rarely defended his title, a comment which Cesaro supported. This made Sheamus openly challenge The Swiss Superman for a match with the place and time being of Cesaro’s choice.

Taking a weekly show like Raw or SmackDown would do no good for both superstars as they are in desperate need for some pay-per-view time. It would be some much needed exposure for the United States championship as well which is looking irrelevant as the fan on twitter pointed out.

#5 AJ Lee vs Paige (Divas Championship)

This feud is no longer about the title is it? Paige and AJ are two of the craziest women in the entire WWE roster right now and so far, their feud has only improved with time.

AJ distracting Paige and making her lose two matches against Natalya hints that this angle is far away from being over. The rumors of AJ possibly walking out of WWE to have a family life with Punk add more layers to the match.

If they are true, then it will be the torch passing moment at the end of this feud and Paige would be crowned as the flag bearer of the divas division. As far as the in ring action is concerned, anything close to their SummerSlam match would be received very well by the WWE universe.

#4 Dolph Ziggler vs Miz (Intercontinental championship)

No one would’ve imagined another pay-per-view match between the two after SummerSlam but from the looks of it, WWE doesn’t have anything else in their mind for the Intercontinental championship.

There is some potential yet to be explored in this feud and a lot of that has to do with Miz’s latest gimmick. It is doing wonders for him even if numbers aren’t making him happy.

Coupling this with the in ring talent that Ziggler possesses, the match is bound to be impressive at Night of Champions. The lack of other credible contenders for the showoff in the roster will work in Miz’s favor ensuring him another rematch. The involvement of Ric Flair is another interesting aspect as the Nature boy could help raise the standards for this bout.

#3 Roman Reigns vs Randy Orton

It would be hard to push forward this feud to one more pay-per-view, but sadly, there aren’t many other options to keep these two men busy at Night of Champions.

The dream match between Triple H and Reigns would leave Orton without good opponent since he hasn’t changed his alignment. The recent exchange that the two had on Raw suggests a rematch is possible and if this is the path they are choosing, something should be kept at stake.

WWE universe wouldn’t be interested in seeing Reigns get another win over Orton in a plain match. Triple H’s involvement or a No.1 contender’s position for Lesnar’s title should be added so that this would live up to the pay-per-view standards.

#2 Dean Ambrose vs Seth Rollins

This feud could run forever if it wants to because, these two have that kind of chemistry. After the vicious attack that took place on Raw, Ambrose isn’t going to be silent when he makes his return.

At SummerSlam, despite having a lumberjack stipulation, the two went on to give the match of the night which is only a glimpse of what they are capable of delivering. An intense stipulation to fight for will ensure a class match from both Ambrose and Rollins.

Having the Money in the Bank briefcase on the line would make the match more compelling than it already is. One thing that the company should take care of is Kane. A botched ending is something that fans wouldn’t want every time so a Hell in a Cell will be preferred personally.

#1 Brock Lesnar vs John Cena (WWE Championship)

The rematch was made official by Triple H and gave rise to a plethora of Internet memes asking to call off the match for Cena’s safety.

After what went down at SummerSlam, Cena is going into the match as an underdog which is a situation that the fans have wanted for a long time. The match between the Beast and the Cenation leader will be the biggest draw of Night of Champions without any argument.

Cena would be looking to come back fighting while Lesnar would just be looking to emphasize his statement again. It is a match worth looking forward to because of all these dynamics and no matter what the result is, the fans are thoroughly going to enjoy every bit of the buildup and the match.
