WWE Night of Champions: 5 biggest winners of the night

AJ Lee

At WWE Night of Champions pay-per-view on September 21, the roster came alive as every championship was defended. It was the correct platform for the champions and challengers to showcase their best performances.John Cena had the most anticipated rematch in recent times. The Cena-Lesnar bout was a huge selling point for Night of Champions. But that alone didn’t do enough to make the pay-per-view an outstanding success. It turned out to be a disappointed affair for most parts. WWE failed miserably in engaging the fans with matches, buildups and storylines that were less than exciting. But that doesn't mean there weren't any winners on Sunday night. Title changed hands, an unexpected return uplifted the fans and the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match saw an outside interference.Who ended up as making themselves the biggest stars of the night? It’s time to have a look at them.

#5 AJ Lee

AJ Lee

The triple threat match for Divas championship was intended to give focus to Nikki Bella, who earlier dominated the match and looking as the winner of the night. Although, it’s AJ Lee who made Paige tap and became the champion for third time in her career. This win would surely provide a momentum in her career and add more to her storyline with Paige. Also a stare down between her and Stephanie few weeks on ago on Raw already indicated a future match between the two which can be a giant leap for her it it does happen.

With nice in-ring capabilities and good mic skills, AJ Lee deserved this much needed win to propell some great matches in divas division.

#4 Sheamus

Sheamus

Sheamus was undoubtedly involved in the best match of the night (and probably contender of best match of the year). He walked away by retaining the gold around his waist after providing the fans what exactly is called a wrestling match. Sheamus and Cesaro put up a brutal slobberknocker that completely engaged the fans throughout.

For a match less cared by the fans, the in-ring work of Sheamus turned the tables and got some amazing reactions from the crowd. The win itself is a great booster for Celtic warrior who is currently heading into another push in his career.

#3 Seth Rollins

Seth Rollins

Earlier in the night, Rollins involved in a brawl with Ambrose which ensured that we have not seen the last of their rivalry and a final chapter of this great feud is still in the making. Later on in the main event of Cena-Lesnar, Rollins attacked Cena which forced the referee to end the match. With Rollins’ cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase, it seemed like a new champion will walk away with the gold. However, Cena attacked Rollins and the latter ended up running off. The whole setup clearly puts Rollins in the title scenario with a future feud with either Cena or Lesnar.

All in all, the night opened a lot of prospects in future for Rollins. The next few months will be very crucial for him and it is interesting to see how WWE creative books him further.

#2 Brock Lesnar

Brock Lesnar

Lesnar’s rematch with John Cena was far different from their last bout. This match showed a stronger Cena with some great in-ring action from both the wrestlers. Cena won by disqualification due to interference by Seth Rollins and Lesnar retained his championship.

With Lesnar still the WWE World Heavyweight Champion at Night of Champions, the possibilities are huge that WWE is interested in keeping him as the champion till WrestleMania next year. With that in place, WWE creative can initiate various scenarios at its disposal with Lesnar as World champ. There is definitely a huge excitement involved with predicting what he might do next.

#1 Dean Ambrose

Dean Ambrose

Dean Ambrose wasn’t scheduled for any match for the night, yet he delivered one of the most memorable moments of the event. With Roman Reigns unable to compete due to his surgery, Seth Rollins got the win by forfeit, which left the fans completely disappointed. But with the unexpected return of Ambrose, it made the segment a must watch with amazing energy and some top class performance by Ambrose. Dean Ambrose gave fans a much needed boost.

Ambrose and Rollins were already engaged in one of the best feuds of this year and with Reigns due to miss in-ring action for several months, it is the right time for Ambrose to carry forward the intensity.
