NXT Takeover: Respect - 3 things that worked

Bayley won an awesome, awesome match against Banks

Banks made a huge statement this nightThere are only a few things in pro wrestling that are great, and consistent at being great. NXT is one of them. There has been no greater story in the WWE than the rise AND rise of NXT. The way they book their female performers and tag team division coupled with the way they develop most of their characters is amazing, and something that the main roster so need to take notes from. This was a night where things were expected to work given NXT’s reputation. And they did. Bayley had her first title defense and what a glorious one it was. Here are the 3 things that worked -

#1 THE MAIN EVENT

Bayley won an awesome, awesome match against Banks

THIS MATCH DESERVES TO BE DESCRIBED IN CAPS BECAUSE IT WAS THAT AWESOME!

Banks vs Bayley was another great bout in the history of the NXT women's Championship. These two did way better than what was expected and the expectations were already sky high after what they did in Brooklyn. This is was dreams are made of. This is what the beauty of professional wrestling stands for.

It was storyline perfection. Just watch the hype videos WWE came out with and rejoice again.

Triple H and Stephanie McMahon with Regal and the entire NXT roster coming out to celebrate, was another nice touch.

#2 Asuka\'s debut

Asuka showcased her trademark stiff kicks

On a night when a women's match was headlining the show, NXT had another well-hyped bout between two women and it was all about the debut of one.

Asuka made a splendid entrance and showcased all that we expected of her. Dana Brooke was in shreds and Emma, it seems, is next. This performance and the momentum is awesome in a division that has Bayley as the champion. This Takeover was all about how glorious women's wrestling can be. She also brought those stiff kicks in its full glory

#3 Balor and Joe storyline

The story begins now.

Despite the fact that these are two established and well-reputed stars, NXT had them win the Dusty Rhodes tag team classic.

But not only did this tag team tournament showcase a lot of talent in this division, it masterfully executed the storyline between Balor and Samoa Joe. These two won the entire tournament and that on the exterior may look like a happy ending, but you know that there is so much more that can and will happen.

Firstly, Joe being a face and assisting Balor with his injury and then letting him get the pin for the win was a good way to show the changing character dynamic.

And nice touch seeing Cody Rhodes as Cody Rhodes with his wife Eden.
