WWE Power Rankings: 2 August, 2014

WWE edged another step closer towards SummerSlam in a week where the limelight shined on the brilliance of Stephanie McMahon. It was her segment with Brie Bella that turned out to be the biggest headline of the week as they drew the battlelines for a match at SummerSlam.Elsewhere, John Cena seemed to be punching the air in absence of Brock Lesnar making the buildup look slow. Dean Ambrose proved to be a master in the promo department once again while the company failed to raise the stocks of Chris Jericho Bray Wyatt feud.Tag Team division saw two new teams getting pushed into the mix. Slator Gator consisting of Heath Slater and Titus ONeil and the team of Big E and Kofi Kingston alongside Xavier Woods might just breath back some life into the division which was confined to Usos and Wyatt Family. It was also the week where Bo Dallas streak came to an end thanks to R-Truth and here is a look at how all these shaped up the Power Rankings.

#25 Rybaxel (Previous Rank 23)

Ryback and Curtis Axel are on a manager hunt at the moment but their performances in the ring don’t make them worthy of one. They had the chance to make a statement against the Usos this week but failed to capitalize and ended up taking two losses which drops them to 25th.

#24 Dolph Ziggler (Previous Rank 24)

Ziggler clearly is enjoying the road to SummerSlam as he looks set to pounce on the Intercontinental title. His momentum was aided by two good matches over the week and if the Showoff manages to keep up his run, he is sure to find a place in the SummerSlam matchcard.

#23 R- Truth (Previous Rank Nil)

After Lesnar, Truth will go down the history books as a streak ender after he became the one in eighteen and one. The veteran might not have any future feuds to pull off against Bo, but the win has helped his gain some momentum which he could carry into the next match.

#22 The Miz (Previous Rank 21)

The Intercontinental champion continued his disappointing run after he took a loss on Raw against Ziggler and the Usos. Being champion was expected to be Miz’s way up in the Power Rankings, but the exact opposite is happening as he drops further.

#21 Alberto Del Rio (Previous Rank Nil)

Del Rio is not backed by any kind of storyline this week but is getting wins down the road. The match he had with Ambrose helped him wrestle under the spotlight while the wins against Justin Gabriel and Ziggler has helped the Mexican to make progress in the Rankings.

#20 Bo Dallas (Previous Rank 18)

The inspirational one might be looking for some inspiration at the moment after R-Truth came away with a surprise win. Bo will now have to pick himself up and start Bolieving if he has to get back the momentum he had with the undefeated streak.

#19 Stardust and Goldust (Previous Rank 19)

Despite carrying a lot of aura with them, Stardust and Goldust for one reason or the other is kept away from the tag team title scene. They are getting good television time however and this helps the creepy team to stay rooted in their previous rank.

#18 Rusev (Previous Rank 15)

The Monster who could not be stopped is long gone and Rusev has turned into a mere mortal thanks to a Real American. Lana’s hate speeches and some fitting reply from Zeb Colter has kept Rusev relevant and the angle hot as the Bulgarian Brute heads to SummerSlam.

#17 Jack Swagger (Previous Rank 22)

Swagger takes one huge leap in the Power Rankings after dominating Rusev. He also had a win over his former partner, Cesaro this week and looks set for the flag match at SummerSlam. A lot of expectations are riding on the Real American after this week and hopefully he will be able to convert them into results.

#16 Adam Rose (Previous Rank 16)

No matter how ridiculously he is booked, Rose is getting wins which is one of the crucial things for a good ranking. He continued his party this week at the expense of a dressed up Damien Sandow and this helps him to stay in the 16th position of the Power Rankings.

#15 Cesaro (Previous Rank 12)

Paul Heyman’s absence from his side is turning out to be a jinx for the Swiss Superman as he picked up two losses this week. The first came against Cena on Raw while the second was more painful when he tapped out to his former partner, Jack Swagger. The result drops Cesaro down three places with no real hopes of a bright future.

#14 Big E (Previous Rank 13)

Big E continued his association with Kingston and Woods laying foundations for a potential stable. He got a win as well during the week but it wasn’t enough to keep him from dropping in the Power Rankings. The angle seems intriguing however and Big E is going places if WWE doesn’t mess things up.

#13 Paige (Previous Rank 14)

Paige and her strange ways of showing friendship to AJ Lee have left the fans wondering. She is one of the most unpredictable divas in the division right now and this is sure to land her another title shot. The buildup should be taken to another level if it is to be credible match in the end.

#12 Chris Jericho (Previous Rank 17)

Jericho made a statement this week when he took Erick Rowan out of the situation at SummerSlam. There was some vintage Jericho stuff when he mouthed off Stephanie McMahon and Hunter on Raw before which he had an excellent encounter with Seth Rollins.

#11 Kane (Previous Rank 11)

The Big red monster seems to be lost amidst all the chaos in the main event scene. His match with Roman Reigns never really got started on Raw thanks to Randy Orton and that summed up Kane’s week. He is been pushed back into the crowd as the weeks pass by and a big question mark still lingers on his SummerSlam status.

#10 Wyatt Family (Previous Rank 8)

Bray Wyatt is still cryptic about his motives for attacking Jericho. This is clearly hurting the narrative to an extent while Wyatt Family struggled to get one over the Human Highlight reel. Rowan will be banned from being at the ring side for Bray at SummerSlam and Harper might suffer the same faith soon.

#9 AJ Lee (Previous Rank 9)

Calling AJ crazy is one of the things that a diva shouldn’t do and Paige learned it the hard way. WWE is giving some time for both the divas to improve the narrative and it should strike the right chords with the fans sooner or later if Divas division is to survive.

#8 Brock Lesnar (Previous Rank 10)

Heyman endorsing his client is not a rare sight for the WWE fans but when Cena did the honor, it turned out to be more than effective. Lesnar might’ve been absent from the proceedings this week but the mark he left last week was there to be seen as it progressed the buildup.

#7 The Usos (Previous Rank 7)

WWE is yet to finding a fitting opponent for the tag team champion for SummerSlam but it ain’t stopping the duo from picking up wins. They had two impressive ones this week and this has helped the Usos to remain in contention for a top five spot.

#6 Sheamus (Previous Rank 5)

The Celtic Warrior drops out of the top five after a long time thanks to the lack of in ring activity. Being the United States champion doesn’t work in favor of Sheamus in such situations and he will be looking to come back with all guns blazing at the earliest.

#5 Roman Reigns (Previous Rank 2)

Reigns took his friction with Randy Orton to another level last week and the Viper just struck back strong. The Samoan superstar was laid out with a vicious attack by the former World champion and Reigns will now be looking to settle the scores before they head for a match at SummerSlam.

#4 Seth Rollins (Previous Rank 3)

Mr. Money in the Bank saw the wrath of Ambrose unfold once again this week. The contract that Rollins has in his hand seems null as long as he doesn’t give Ambrose his chance and the beat down from the Lunatic fringe drags Rollins down one place in the rankings.

#3 Randy Orton (Previous Rank 6)

Orton broke out from the Authority’s shadow this week when he delivered a ruthless attack against Reigns. Payback was sweet for the viper who also challenged Reigns to a match at SummerSlam where he will be looking to deliver a clear message to the Authority.

#2 Dean Ambrose (Previous Rank 4)

The leap to second rank has proved once again that the lunatic fringe is having a better run than his former teammates. He haunted Rollins again this week and has made matter clear to Mr. Money in the bank that he will not calm down until Rollins pays for the betrayal.

#1 John Cena (Previous Rank 1)

Cena came out after a week’s absence and had strong words for his opponent. Lesnar’s absence was causing some problems for the champion but he covered it up with a win over Cesaro. It was one of Cena’s best performances in recent history and it has helped him to remain at the top of Power Rankings.
