WWE Royal Rumble 2016: 5 Reasons why Roman Reigns should lose the Rumble match

Lesnar winning is a more exciting option

Reigns losing would be best for businessRoman Reigns will have one of the most important matches of his career at Royal Rumble. His WWE championship will be on the line at the pay-per-view and he will have to fight against 29 other men to keep his gold intact. It is going to be a paramount task and all eyes will be on Reigns when the show goes live. While a win for Reigns would make a great story on paper, WWE should think about booking it the other way round if they are to prevent a huge backlash from the fans. Letting Reigns lose at the Royal Rumble would be a best for business decision and here are the reasons why.

#5 The prospect of other winners

Lesnar winning is a more exciting option

Roman Reigns is indeed among the favourites to win the Royal Rumble match.

However, from a booking point of view, he is the least exciting one. The chances of the internet breaking due to a Reigns win is unlikely whereas the Internet breaking due to a superstar like Brock Lesnar, Triple H, Kevin Owens, Dean Ambrose, or even AJ styles is a real possibility.

I am not saying that WWE should give the title to AJ Styles if he debuts, but if we think about it; such unpredictability is what the business was brought up on. We wrestling fans love to get surprised and we love to see new heroes rise on such occasions.

#4 He gets a guaranteed spot in WrestleMania

Guaranteed spots are not good

Firstly, Reigns defending the WWE championship at Royal Rumble is quite confusing.

The Rumble match is there to give that one superstar a chance to headline WrestleMania. If the championship is on the line, the obvious question that arises is: does the winner get a guaranteed spot at WrestleMania?.

The answer could go either way, but if Reigns does win the bout, we could safely say that he will book his spot to headline WrestleMania for sure. Why? Because the chances of WWE having a major championship change at Fast Lane is low.

From what we know, such a guaranteed spot is not something that would evoke emotions among the fans that WWE wants to impress.

#3 Nothing new to offer

Same old story

The booking of Roman Reigns after his WWE championship win has been repetitive.

Every Monday night, he comes out; gets into a scuffle with the Authority and the bad guys throw in some obstacles in front of him. If Reigns goes on to win the Rumble match, WWE will have to continue the same booking all the way to WrestleMania.

That is almost four months or so of the same old booking. Reigns losing, on the other hand, opens new doors. He will be relegated back to the underdog status and that is what the company needs from him.

Instead of defending, Reigns should chase his dreams all the way to WrestleMania.

#2 Superman booking

There is no room for two Supermans

What is the reason behind John Cena being such a polarizing character?

He wins through the most unbelievable situations right? Cena wins handicap matches, Cena wins Rumble matches, Cena defeats monsters that are twice his size and in short, Cena gets the Superman booking.

Shades of the same will be seen in Reigns if he wins at Royal Rumble. He is entering at the number one spot in the Rumble match and if he survives the entire thing, he would cement his place as Cena 2.0, in a bad way that is. I mean, imagine, Brock Lesnar coming in at Number 30 and getting eliminated by Reigns.

#1 The fan backlash

Not what they want

If Reigns wins, the WWE fans are going to riot. It happened last year and the magnitude of the reaction would be much larger this time around.

Reigns got a more believable booking last time around but this time, he is entering at the number one spot and with his WWE championship being on the line, if he goes on to win, the fans are going to turn on him for sure.

After a series of bad booking, the fans are finally backing him for a reason and all of this will come crashing down if Reigns ends up winning. The fans turning on Reigns is not something WWE would want ahead of WrestleMania.
