WWE SummerSlam 2014 : 5 Storylines that came out from the Pay-Per-View

If WWE were taking some tuitions on how to pull off a pay-per-view after Battleground, well, they just got their moneys worth because SummerSlam was that damn good. From the start of the show to the final bell for Brock Lesnar John Cena match, the fans were kept at the edge of their seat with almost every match delivering an above B rating.Amidst the in ring action the creative team didnt leave any void in the narrative level as well.Usually, after a pay-per-view, we try to dig the bad booking decisions that the company made, but this time, there werent enough to make a list. So for a change, here is a look at those intriguing storylines that took birth in WWEs best pay-per-view outing of this year by a big margin.

#5 AJ Lee and Paige carrying divas division

AJ Lee and Paige are two divas that could deliver a good match in sleep if provided with the correct time and place. It was there to be seen at SummerSlam when the two had a compelling match for the divas title in the limitations they had.

There were some high spots and excellent action in the match but the biggest take away from it was Paige’s win. Apparently the feud between these two is nowhere near over and the title changing hands is an indication of this.

If WWE had let AJ retain the title, Paige wouldn’t have had any case to ask for another rematch.

However the result at SummerSlam means that a refresh button has been hit to push it all the way forward to one or two more pay-per-views in the near future before they call up the likes of Charlotte and Sasha Banks.

#4 Zigglers reign with possible shade of burial

Two days back, if you asked a WWE fan about the most underutilized star in the WWE roster, Ziggler’s name wouldn’t been there easily in the top three.

After losing the World Heavyweight title, Ziggler’s career was in a downward spiral with him jobbing to almost everyone in the roster. The Internet fans base were crying out loud to get Ziggler some credible booking and SummerSlam proved to be the stage.

The Intercontinental title is going to bring back the Showoff to relevance and he would be making use of the opportunity at all costs.

Though the reign is an exciting prospect, there is a potential of WWE screwing things up and letting him drop the title to El Torito next.

#3 Battle between the sisters

Many swerves were expected at the Staples Center for SummerSlam but the one that happened literally stole the headlines in a show that was full of great moments.

Nikki turning against her sister and aligning with the Authority opens up a lot of possible angles with the first one being the progress of the current one without having Stephanie to wrestle even if she looked precious in the ring.

Stephanie plotting the move and Nikki executing would be a good storyline to keep the Bella twins busy for the buildup of next pay-per-view.

Also it opens up the possibility of Daniel Bryan and John Cena locking horns are one point or other in the future thanks to their girls.

#2 Reigns has a point to argue now

After the Shield broke up, Roman Reigns was constantly seen in the WWE title scene though it was multi-superstar matches. When Hunter chose the No.1 contender for the title, Randy Orton, Reigns simply took out the viper which led to their feud.

It was worked into a good program by the company for SummerSlam and now that Reigns won the match against a former world champion and Authority’s No. 1 contender before Lesnar, Reigns has all the right to ask for a title shot.

There would be no point in advancing the angle between Reigns and Orton to the next pay-per-view as the apex predator lost fair and square.

Reigns going toe to toe with Hunter asking for a title shot is the next best thing that the writers could to as it opens up two possible matches, Reigns vs. Triple H and Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar.

#1 A battered Cena and a Dominant champion

With Lesnar it seems to be a number game. At WrestleMania it was 21-1 and now at Summerslam the number 16 just went trending after the Beast demolished Cena with that many German suplexes.

The social media was going havoc seeing Cena getting beaten with some memes even suggesting “ Lesnar stop, he is dead already”. It was nothing less than a dominant performance from Lesnar and has underlined that this is his year.

Cena on the other hand was not the warrior that he usually is. He was just getting beaten up by someone more powerful.

A possible rematch might be at the horizon but with such a one sided match being the foundation, it would be interesting to see how things turn out.
