WWE SummerSlam 2014 : Superstar Ratings

The summers biggest party lived up to its name and the expectation levels of the fans when it turned out to be the best pay-per-view of 2014.Everyone who spent their money to see the pay-per-view got what they paid for and more and there were no complaints raised after the show ended, which is a rare sight considering how polarizing WWE pay-per-views could be.Anything which follows SummerSlam would have a tough task living up to the expectation which puts extra pressure on Night of Champions. This might also be WWEs way of silencing their critics after getting a rough treatment at Battleground. The Network promotions also have a platform after such a brilliantly executed show and here is a look at how the roster performed with the Superstar ratings for the pay-per-view.

#15 John Cena 6

No matter how dominating his opponent is, Cena would get a warrior’s booking so that he could live up to his never give up attitude. Well this wasn’t the case at Staples Centre when Cena crumbled in front of Lesnar. This was by far the weakest performance by Cena in recent history and makes it a forgettable outing for him.

#14 Chris Jericho 6

Jericho gave out another performance about which he wouldn’t feel very proud off. There will be a lot of questions raised on the in ring ability of Jericho after this one and if Bray hadn’t picked up the win, it could’ve been an awkward situation for writers.

#13 Brie Bella 6.5

It is hard to overshadow a talent like Stephanie McMahon but Brie didn’t embarrass herself as many expected. The turn of Nikki Bella ensures the longer run for Brie as she would have another good program after the match with the McMahon girl.

#12 Jack Swagger 6.5

Swagger performed a real American performance when he found it fitting to pass out rather than tap out to the submission move of Rusev. Though it would go down as a loss for the former world champion, it was him that won the crowd over with the dedicated performance.

#11 AJ Lee 7

AJ Lee once again proved to the world that she could deliver a good match if her opponent knows a couple of moves. Losing the title wasn’t something that she would’ve wanted but the performance made news overriding whatever the result was.

#10 Rusev 7

The Bulgarian Brute might’ve stumbled here and there, but he got the job done in the end by picking up the win. He also got a shot at Zeb Colter after the match which gives more heat to the Russian. The challenge that Lana made to Lesnar also is interesting but after Summerslam, no one would want to go against the beast.

#9 Bray Wyatt 7

The eater of the worlds finally has something to back up the things he says thanks to the result at SummerSlam. Winning against someone like Jericho at SummerSlam is not a small thing and could help Bray to rebuild his character which was showing cracks.

#8 Randy Orton 7

The ruthless viper broke out of the Authority’s shadow with the help of Reigns but the loss hurts Orton. He would be causing a heck of confusion among the writers on what to do with him after this as there aren’t many credible programs left for the viper apart from a face turn that needs to happen.

#7 Paige 7.5

Paige stepping into the ring and doing all those crazy things with AJ Lee took the fans all the way back to Attitude Era when Lita and Trish used to do the same. This is Paige’s second title reign in the short time that she has been in the main roster which shows the company’s faith in the second generation superstar.

#6 Dolph Ziggler 7.5

Another midcard title which changed hands at SummerSlam apart from the Divas title was the Intercontinental championship. And the man who won it deserved it more than any other midcarder in the roster. Hopefully this would be the start of something good for the Show off who could make the title relevant again.

#5 Roman Reigns 8

The match between Roman Reigns and Randy Orton was a bit overshadowed to be frank because of the lack of depth this feud had. The action was solid but it didn’t have those exciting moments like the other match. The future of Reigns after this keeps the fans curious as he is eligible for a title shot now.

#4 Seth Rollins 8

Rollins and Ambrose came above the Lumberjack stipulation by giving something that the fans never expected. The win builds up the already sky high momentum for Mr. Money in the bank, but one thing that doesn’t go in his favor is Lesnar winning, which will make the cashing in a bit late.

#3 Dean Ambrose 8

SummerSlam proved that anything associated with Ambrose is bound to be chaotic as the Lumberjack match went beyond the confinable limit. Though Ambrose lost out, he could go out and ask for another match with Rollins because the angle is too good to be dropped after one match.

#2 Stephanie McMahon 8.5

I never imagined saying this, but Stephanie McMahon surpassed the lights of many top superstars in the way she performed in the ring at SummerSlam. The in ring phycology and the action was top notch and WWE should think about letting Stephanie wrestle more after that performance.

#1 Brock Lesnar 9

Eat, sleep, German Suplex, repeat. Lesnar followed this motto at SummerSlam when he tore apart the Cenation leader into pieces. There couldn’t have been any better situation for the Beast to dominate and winning the title rounds of an excellent year for Heyman’s client. The only thing that the fans would want now is some more television time for the champion as everything else looks perfect.
