WWE Survivor Series 2014: 5 storylines that can sprout from the Pay-Per-View

Despite carrying a lot of tradition and hype, the 2014 edition of WWE’s Survivor Series has been nothing more than a one match event. The traditional elimination main event between Team Cena and Team Authority is the only match that got an apt buildup while the remaining storylines are either half-baked or not booked for the pay-per-view at all.WWE’s idea of giving out the Survivor Series for free and attracting new fans ain’t going to work if they are going forward with this type of booking but one thing they can still do is to throw in bait. There is a certain need for Vince McMahon to present glimpses of future storylines that are in the building process. So here is a look at some of the angles that could sprout out from Survivor Series.

#1 Luke Harpers gold chase

There are many superstars to watch out for heading to Survivor Series but Luke Harper would probably top that list. Freshly split from the Wyatt Family, Harper now has the opportunity to show his doubters that he was always ready to take a big leap.

Hanging around with the lights of Bray and Rowan restricted Harper from being a singles threat but all that is history now.

He pulled off some interesting and creepy promos recently and Dolph Ziggler seems to be the lucky one that’ll job for Harper. The chances of Harper being in the main event of Survivor Series are pretty high and even if he doesn’t make it, the angle with Ziggler looks set to continue.

Winning the intercontinental championship is one thing that Harper would benefit from and it is the best booking that he could get right now.

#2 Bellas back to square one

The Hell in a Cell match between Brie Bella and Nikki Bella was nothing short of surprising. The Bella twins actually gave out a great effort and the stipulation of the matched helped them to tell the story as well.

Despite the match being a success, the company failed to transform the angle into something bigger. The personal assistant angle had a lot of potential in it, but apart from some perks here and there, it fell flat.

Nikki will now be facing AJ Lee for the Divas Championship at Survivor Series and the subplot here would be Brie’s reluctance to obey her sister.

If Brie goes off limits and costs Nikki a championship win, the Bellas would be back to square one and we will have another show down between the two sisters at TLC.

#3 Lone Wolf Ryback

Both Cena and Triple H trying to lure in Ryback into their respective teams was the back bone of last week’s Monday Night Raw. However, both the leaders were disappointed with the lack of cooperation that the big guy was showing.

As things stand now, Ryback hasn’t made it into any team but considering how well his current run is going, he is sure to find a spot in the Survivor Series main event.

He is most likely to join Team Cena after what happened at SmackDown but even if he does that, Cena will have a big headache. Ryback has established himself as a lone wolf which means that he will struggle to become a team player.

Ryback causing problems for the rest of the pack will be a great subplot in the match and in the end; he would come out as a clear cut lone wolf.

#4 Orton seeking revenge

Orton might be enjoying his time shooting for the sequel of ‘The Condemned’ right now but when the viper finally returns to WWE, it’s not going to be good news for Seth Rollins.

It was Rollins who put Orton out of television with his vicious curb stomp and from what we know about Orton, he doesn’t forget thing that easily.

The exciting thing about Orton’s return would be his refreshed character. He was a stale heel for a long time but when he was taken out by the Authority, Orton underwent a natural face turn.

He will be hell bound on destroying everyone who backstabbed him and WWE should let Orton return at Survivor Series as it would add a surprising factor to the pay-per-view.

#5 McMahon Helmsley Power Struggle

As mentioned earlier, the biggest angle heading into Survivor Series is the Authority’s desperation to stay in power. Just when Triple H thought that their encounter with Team Cena was going to be just another outing, Vince McMahon added a stipulation much to the misery of Hunter and Stephanie.

Though Hunter didn’t like the decision made by McMahon, he mostly stayed silent and said that it was the Boss’ way of testing everyone.

This conclusion however wouldn’t last long. If Team Authority losses, Triple H would be going full throttle against Vince to get his power back. According to the rumors, the power struggle would go all the way to WrestleMania and if that is the case, then the seeds should be sown in Survivor Series itself.
